In an intense Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match held in Lucknow on Friday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) set a challenging target of 187 runs for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The innings was highlighted by a remarkable 71 runs from Kartik Sharma, complemented by a late surge from Shivam Dube.

Initial Overs and Key Wickets

Chennai Super Kings opted to bat first, and their opening pair, Sanju Samson and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, started strongly, taking the score to 20 without losing any wickets in the first two overs. However, the game saw a shift in momentum during the fourth over when LSG’s pacer Akash Singh dismissed Gaikwad for 13 runs. Akash continued his impressive performance by taking out Samson in the sixth over for 20 runs, leaving CSK at a precarious 37 for 2.

Kartik Sharma Steadies the Innings

Following the early setbacks, Akash Singh claimed his third wicket by dismissing Urvil Patel for just six runs in the eighth over, leaving CSK struggling at 61 for 3. By the halfway mark, CSK had managed 71 runs with three wickets down. Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis then collaborated to stabilize the innings, leading the team to 108 for 3 in 13 overs.

Milestone for Kartik Sharma

Kartik Sharma reached his half-century during the 15th over, securing his second fifty of the season off just 35 balls. However, the match took another turn as Mohammed Shami claimed the wicket of Brevis, who had scored 25 runs. In the final delivery of the 16th over, Shahbaz Ahmed captured an important wicket by dismissing Kartik Sharma, whose solid knock concluded at 71 runs. Following his wicket, CSK found themselves at 142 for 5.

Late Flourish Secures Competitive Total

This partnership helped Chennai Super Kings conclude their innings at 187 for 5 after the completion of 20 overs. For Lucknow Super Giants, Akash Singh was the standout bowler, securing 3 wickets for 26 runs. Mohammed Shami and Shahbaz Ahmed also contributed with one wicket each, finishing with figures of 1 for 41 and 1 for 45 respectively.
