He stressed that the international community must continue efforts to mitigate the impact of these crises and create conditions conducive to diplomacy. According to Jaishankar, sustained diplomatic engagement remains essential to managing growing global instability.
Focus On Supply Chains And Energy Security
Highlighting the challenges posed by geopolitical uncertainty, Jaishankar emphasised the importance of reducing risks and diversifying global supply chains. He said building resilience and redundancy had become increasingly important in a volatile world.
On India’s energy policy, the minister reiterated that national interest remained the guiding principle behind energy decisions. He said India’s purchases were determined by considerations of affordability and availability.
Jaishankar also highlighted the significance of India’s ties with the Gulf region, describing them as central to the country’s foreign policy. He noted that these relationships were supported by strong people-to-people connections, energy cooperation and expanding strategic and defence partnerships.
The minister further observed that the nature of warfare was evolving rapidly, with emerging technologies, new weapons and changing tactics existing alongside conventional forms of conflict. He said these developments were creating fresh opportunities for deeper defence and strategic cooperation between India and the European Union.
Growing Momentum In India-EU Relations
Pointing to recent developments in ties with Europe, Jaishankar said India and the European Union had achieved significant progress this year. He noted that the two sides had concluded negotiations on a free trade agreement and signed a Strategic and Defence Partnership along with a Comprehensive Mobility Cooperation Framework.
According to him, these developments reflected the increasing depth and maturity of the India-EU relationship.
