IMD Issues Red Alert for Mumbai, Palghar as Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Forecast

The CSR Journal Magazine

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and neighbouring Palghar district for Wednesday, warning of severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms, lightning and extremely heavy rainfall.

The weather agency has forecast intense to very intense spells of rain across the region, accompanied by strong winds that could reach speeds of 40 to 60 kilometres per hour.

Warning for Severe Weather Conditions

According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to affect parts of Mumbai and Palghar during the day, with heavy downpours expected at several locations.

The department said wind speeds may range between 40 kmph and 60 kmph during the adverse weather conditions, raising the possibility of localised disruptions.

A red alert is the highest level of weather warning issued by the IMD and indicates the likelihood of severe weather that may require immediate precautionary measures.

Authorities Monitor Situation

The warning comes as monsoon activity remains active across Maharashtra, with several districts experiencing intermittent heavy rainfall over the past few days.

Authorities are expected to remain on alert for possible waterlogging, traffic disruptions and other rain-related incidents in vulnerable areas.

Residents have been advised to stay updated on weather advisories and exercise caution during periods of intense rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds.

The IMD continues to monitor weather conditions and will issue further updates as required.
