The CSR Journal Magazine

A special POCSO court in Hyderabad sentenced a 23-year-old auto-rickshaw driver to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy. The judgement was pronounced on May 21, 2026, by Special Sessions Judge G Uday Bhaskar Rao. The convicted individual, Abdul Rehman, is a resident of Secunderabad. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 and awarded compensation of Rs 75,000 to the victim.

Details of the Incident

The events that led to the conviction occurred on October 29, 2019, when the boy boarded Rehman’s auto-rickshaw in the vicinity of Jalavihar, intending to travel to Ranigunj. Instead of following the agreed route, Rehman allegedly diverted the vehicle’s path and halted near Bathukamma Kunta. Once there, he forcibly took the child into nearby bushes adjacent to a railway track. It was here that he reportedly assaulted the boy.

In a desperate attempt to resist, the victim was allegedly injured when Rehman smashed his head against a wall, resulting in significant bleeding. The loud cries for help from the young boy caught the attention of nearby passers-by, who intervened, apprehended Rehman, and subsequently handed him over to law enforcement.

Following the incident, a complaint was filed by the boy’s mother, leading to a formal case being lodged at the Ramgopalpet Police Station. The case was charged under various sections, including Sections 377 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act.

Legal Proceedings and Evidence Presented

The matter was brought before the POCSO court, where it was thoroughly examined based on the evidence provided by the prosecution. The evidentiary process illustrated the circumstances surrounding the crime and the impact on the victim. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which it treats offences against children, especially those involving sexual assault.

Raids and investigations conducted by the police were pivotal in gathering the necessary evidence for prosecution. Conflicting testimonies were addressed during the trial, and the prosecution was successful in establishing a compelling case against Rehman, leading to his conviction.

Following the verdict, Rakshitha Krishna Murthy, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Secunderabad zone, praised the judicial outcome. She commended the diligent efforts of the police team that worked to ensure justice for the victim. This case has drawn attention to the importance of protecting minors from such heinous acts and providing them with justice.
