Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to engage directly with the youth of India, describing it as a significant advancement. Shinde noted that young individuals represent the future of the nation and highlighted this perspective during an interview with ANI on August 7.

In his remarks, Shinde cited the importance of ongoing dialogue between the government and younger demographics. He referenced the statements of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, who also emphasised that the youth are essential for the nation’s progression. The Deputy CM maintained that providing a platform for youth voices is crucial.

Context of Recent Youth Movements

This statement from Shinde arose amid notable youth-led protests occurring across the country, particularly those at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. These protests, organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), were primarily focused on accountability issues including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over controversies related to examination processes and the NEET examinations.

Following the resignation of Pradhan, the young demonstrators have reportedly shifted their focus back to their studies and professions. Shinde’s acknowledgment of the protests appears to be an effort to address their concerns while also reaffirming the government’s commitment to communication.

PM Modi has switched to a modern communication approach, using social media platforms like Instagram to connect with youth. In his self-recorded videos, he discusses topics that resonate with young people, such as examination reforms and initiatives designed for public service.

Criticism of Opposition Parties

Shinde pointed out that parliamentary sessions provide an appropriate venue for addressing concerns, stating, “The House is currently in session, and that is where the discussion should take place.” He further observed that following Pradhan’s resignation, the youth involved in the protests have redirected their energies towards other pursuits.

The Deputy CM labelled the actions of opposition parties as an attempt to avoid genuine dialogue within Parliament. He stated, “However, the Opposition is only interested in playing politics, seeking to further their own political agendas by using the youth as a front.” Shinde’s remarks indicate a broader concern about the political motivations behind the actions of opposition leaders.

Shinde’s Meeting with PM Modi

Earlier on the same day, Shinde, alongside other MPs from Shiv Sena, met with PM Modi during his visit to Parliament. The meeting addressed various issues pertinent to Maharashtra, including development opportunities and the ongoing rainfall situation in the state.
