The government and opposition leaders convened a meeting in the Parliament premises to address the Delimitation Bill. The gathering aimed to clarify the opposition’s position regarding the proposed legislation.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju led the discussions, inquiring about the stance of the opposition parties on the Delimitation Bill. The meeting, held in Rahul Gandhi’s office, lasted approximately 50 minutes and was an attempt to break the current parliamentary impasse.

Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also participated in the session, underlining the significance of the meeting amid ongoing tensions between the government and opposition parties. The dialogue was interpreted as an effort to address grievances raised during the extended monsoon session.

Parliamentary Tensions and Protests

During the ongoing monsoon session, the Parliament has faced considerable disruptions, leading to frequent adjournments. The opposition has persistently demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah be present to address key public issues. As a result, the Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 PM on Wednesday due to these interruptions.

Rajya Sabha LoP and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reaffirmed the opposition’s call for statements from both Modi and Shah in Parliament. He asserted that their clarification on pressing matters is essential for the functioning of the legislative body.

Protests have intensified among opposition MPs, including prominent figures like Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who marched from the Gandhi statue at Prerna Sthal to Makar Dwar. Their demonstration aimed to voice dissent over the police action against CJP protestors on July 20, along with concerns surrounding alleged embezzlement related to donations to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

Prime Minister’s Breakfast Meeting with BJP MPs

On the same day, Prime Minister Modi arranged a breakfast meeting at his residence with 37 Members of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This gathering is part of Modi’s efforts to engage with party members during the monsoon session. Reports indicate that he shared personal experiences and participated in informal discussions with the attending MPs.

The meeting included representatives from various factions, such as the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) alliance and former members of the Aam Aadmi Party who have since joined the BJP. Senior leaders such as Tarun Chugh, Vinod Tawde, and Nitin Nabin were also present, contributing to a broader discussion about legislative priorities.

While the Prime Minister focussed on internal party dynamics, the opposition’s protests highlighted significant concerns about government accountability and responsiveness. The dual narratives of government engagement and opposition agitation underscore the complexities of the present political climate in India.
