The Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) has invited young innovators from across the state of Gujarat to participate in the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) 2026. This event provides an opportunity for students aged between ten and seventeen to delve into local challenges using scientific research and develop viable solutions. The initiative aims to foster a spirit of scientific inquiry, curiosity, and innovation among children, creating a platform for intellectual engagement and practical problem-solving.

Themes and Participation Criteria

This year’s theme, “Science and Innovation for Sustainability,” encourages participants to leverage science and technology to tackle pressing environmental and social issues. Students can choose from five primary sub-themes: waste management, energy conservation, water conservation, food, agriculture and health, and Indian Knowledge Systems. Eligible participants include students from Classes 6 to 12 as well as out-of-school youth aged ten to seventeen. Teams will consist of two students, each working under the mentorship of a teacher.

The programme not only aims to enhance students’ research skills but also to improve their scientific reasoning and problem-solving abilities. Projects will be evaluated at the district level, allowing successful teams to advance to the state-level competition. Ultimately, twenty-six top projects from Gujarat will be selected to represent the state during the national congress, showcasing the innovative work being carried out by young scientists.

Registration is free for both students and teachers, with the deadline set for August 15, 2026. GUJCOST has encouraged schools, parents, and the entire educational community to actively participate and motivate children to explore scientific ideas and methods.

Support for Innovative Projects

GUJCOST has emphasised the importance of the NCSC in nurturing scientific talent throughout Gujarat. Since 2014, the congress has engaged thousands of students at both district and state levels, allowing them to present research-centric projects addressing local challenges. This year’s event is anticipated to continue this trend, inspiring a new generation of scientists and innovators dedicated to making a positive impact on their communities.

In addition to providing students with a platform for recognition, GUJCOST plans to support the most innovative and impactful projects through its Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre (IPFC). Participants who are successful will receive assistance in protecting their inventions through patents, designs, and copyrights, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation in science.

The initiative is designed not only to enhance knowledge but also to encourage students to step beyond traditional classroom learning. By applying scientific methods to real-world issues, the NCSC aims to strengthen the essential culture of innovation and sustainability among young learners, thereby contributing to the greater good of society.
