A suspected leak of sulphur dioxide at a factory in the Kadechur-Badiyal Industrial Area in Yadgiri district, Karnataka, resulted in the deaths of three workers and left two others injured. This tragic incident occurred on August 5, 2026, and was reported to the police shortly thereafter. The deceased individuals were identified as Katla Ganesh from Mahabubnagar, Telangana, and Vikram Singh Gonda and Sanjay Singh Gonda from Katni, Madhya Pradesh.

Immediate Actions Taken

Following the incident, operations at the factory were suspended as emergency protocols came into effect. Yadgiri Superintendent of Police Prithvik Shankar confirmed that the leak occurred in the early morning hours, leading to the tragic outcome for the three workers. Two injured workers, named Manchala Hemanth and Manchala Shivakumar, are receiving treatment at a hospital in Raichur.

Authorities acted quickly. In his statement, SP Shankar noted that a case has been registered against the factory management, and investigations are ongoing. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Forensics are actively present at the site to evaluate the situation and gather evidence. A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has also been dispatched to assist with on-ground assessments.

Police are reportedly reviewing safety guidelines related to hazardous materials in light of the incident. Superintendent Shankar indicated that they would thoroughly investigate potential violations that may have contributed to the leak and subsequent fatalities.

Recent Road Accident in Chittoor District

The Yadgiri incident follows another tragic event that occurred the previous day, in which two women lost their lives and three individuals were injured in a car accident on the V Kota Express Highway near Ramapuram in the Chittoor district. Police reported that this accident involved a family returning to Tirupati from Karnataka.

In this incident, one woman died immediately at the site while the other succumbed to her injuries during hospital treatment. The deceased individuals were identified as Gautami and Manasa, both residents of Tirupati. The husband of one of the deceased and two friends who were travelling with them sustained significant injuries but survived the crash.

Initial investigations indicated that the car experienced a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle reportedly overturned multiple times, resulting in the fatalities and injuries. Authorities are looking into the specifics to ascertain further details regarding the cause of the accident.

As investigations unfold in both cases, officials are focusing on ensuring the safety of operations at the factory in Yadgiri while also seeking to enhance road safety measures in the wake of the accident in Chittoor.
