Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group, met with Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary in Patna on May 17, 2026, to discuss the future development of the state. During this meeting, Adani expressed his commitment to supporting various initiatives aimed at creating employment and enhancing social services in Bihar. He highlighted that the company is dedicated to playing a significant role in steering the state’s development.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Adani referred to the meeting as “meaningful” and stated that it bolstered their belief in the bright future of Bihar. He reiterated the Adani Group’s focus on collaboration within the sectors of infrastructure and energy, which are essential for propelling the state’s growth.

According to reports from both Adani and Choudhary, the interaction has opened avenues for future cooperation aimed at leveraging Bihar’s potential for economic advancement. The Adani Group aims to create sustainable job opportunities and contribute to the social welfare of local communities.

Launch of Vision Care Initiative

Earlier on the same day, Gautam Adani inaugurated a significant vision care initiative in Mastichak, located approximately seventy kilometres from Patna. This initiative involves an investment of Rs 150 crore and seeks to develop one of the world’s largest rural eye care ecosystems, capable of facilitating 3.3 lakh eye surgeries each year. The initiative also aims to train 1,000 eye health professionals annually to support its operations.

Adani emphasised the initiative’s goals of providing affordable eye treatment and enhancing rural outreach. He described the project as a vital step towards bringing essential vision care services to underserved communities across the Hindi heartland. The initiative reflects a philosophy encapsulated in the slogan “Seva Hi Saadhna Hai,” which translates to “Service is the Highest Form of Worship.”

During the launch, Adani articulated that restoring sight transcends medical capability; it restores hope, confidence, and dignity to individuals. He expressed his intent that the new trust, named “Adani Akhand Jyoti Foundation,” would extend the essence of service born in Bihar to other underserved regions of India.

Partnerships for Sustainable Healthcare

The Adani Foundation, which focuses on social welfare and development, will support both the Adani Centre for Eye (ACE) and Adani Training in Ophthalmic Medicine (ATOM) located in Mastichak. This initiative has been established in partnership with Akhand Jyoti Foundation, a well-respected rural eye care institution in Bihar. ACE is designed to be an advanced treatment and surgical facility, while ATOM will concentrate on training optometrists and community healthcare workers.

Through these partnerships, the Adani Group aims to strengthen the rural healthcare workforce in India, thereby improving access to quality care. Furthermore, a ceremonial event was held to mark the launch of a fleet of ten patient transport buses under the ACE programme. This action signifies a commitment to enhancing last-mile access to vision care for remote villages in Bihar and neighbouring areas.

As the initiatives advance, the collaboration between the Adani Group and Bihar’s state administration is poised to significantly impact both the healthcare sector and employment opportunities within the region, addressing longstanding barriers faced by local communities.
