‘Future of 22 Lakh Children Shattered’: Rahul Gandhi Criticises Government Over NEET Paper Leak

The CSR Journal Magazine

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly condemned the Central government in light of ongoing irregularities regarding the NEET-UG examination. He described the situation as an alarming transformation of the renowned medical entrance test into a marketplace auction, where the futures of millions of students are allegedly compromised. Gandhi highlighted a troubling trend, claiming that over the past decade, there have been 89 paper leaks resulting in 48 re-examinations.

In a post on X, he expressed his outrage by stating that information about the NEET 2026 paper leak emerged shortly before the exam, with questions allegedly being sold via WhatsApp forty-two hours prior. He indicated that the dedication of over 22 lakh students, who have studied diligently throughout the year, has been undermined by such misconduct.

Further criticising the current administration, Gandhi asserted that it poses a significant threat to the aspirations of Indian youth. He highlighted the disconnect between the promises made by officials and the reality of ongoing corruption, stating that the trust of millions of students has been severely shaken.

Comments from Congress Leaders

Priyanka Vadra Gandhi, another prominent leader from the Congress party, also took to social media to voice her concerns regarding the situation. She questioned the effectiveness of anti-paper leak laws that have been enacted by Parliament, suggesting that their implementation has failed to curb the rampant corruption affecting examinations.

In her remarks, she expressed the distress of students and their parents, emphasising that many families sacrifice a lot to secure a better future for their children. She lamented that despite their efforts, every examination appears vulnerable to malpractices, calling into question the effectiveness of the legislative measures taken against such issues.

Furthermore, Priyanka Gandhi held the Prime Minister accountable, asking how long the cycle of compromising the futures of young people would continue under his governance. Her comments come amidst mounting public frustration regarding the integrity of academic assessments in the country.

Ongoing Investigations Into NEET Irregularities

The controversy surrounding the NEET examination has attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies, with the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (SOG) conducting an investigation into alleged malpractice. Reports indicate that a “guess paper” containing approximately 410 questions is being examined for similarities with the Chemistry section of the actual exam.

Authorities noted that claims suggest that around 120 of the questions from this document matched those included in the exam. However, Additional Director General of Police, Vishal Bansal, clarified that the investigation remains in its initial stages, with no arrests reported thus far.

In response to the unfolding situation, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released a statement affirming that the NEET (UG) examination held on May 3 was conducted with comprehensive security measures in place. The agency noted that question papers were transported using GPS-tracked vehicles, monitored with unique traceable watermarks, and examination halls employed AI-assisted CCTV systems along with biometric identification for candidates.

On May 7, NTA received information regarding the reported irregularities, which was forwarded to central agencies for further verification by May 8. The organisation assured that no premature conclusions would be made, affirming their commitment to transparency as investigations proceed.
