The Delhi Traffic Police has announced a traffic advisory for August 15, coinciding with the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. During this time, several roads surrounding the venue will be closed to general traffic from 4 am to 10 am. Access will only be permitted for vehicles that are appropriately labelled.

Key roads affected include Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S P Mukherjee Marg, and Chandni Chowk Road, among others. Drivers without valid parking labels are urged to avoid specific high-traffic areas such as C-Hexagon India Gate and Copernicus Marg during the restricted hours.

To facilitate better movement, alternative routes have been suggested for north-south travel, which include Aurobindo Marg and Safdarjung Road, among others. Motorists can also navigate through Connaught Place and adjacent streets. For those requiring to cross the Yamuna River, several nearby bridges are available.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

The advisory provided detailed guidance on available routes for both north-south and east-west movement. For east-west travellers, options include NH-24, DND, and Vikas Marg. Additionally, the DND-NH-24-Yudhishthira Setu corridor will remain accessible during the restrictions.

Heavy goods vehicles will face additional limitations, being prohibited from certain routes between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from midnight on August 14 until 11 am on August 15. Intrastate buses will also not operate on specific routes during these hours, which could impact local commuters significantly.

Normal bus services are expected to resume after 11 am, but several routes terminating at Red Fort and adjoining stations will be redirected. Passengers are advised to be vigilant about potential changes in their usual bus routes.

Plan Ahead for Independence Day Celebrations

The traffic police have recommended that commuters leave early to minimise last-minute disruptions due to the scheduled road closures. Informative signages will be positioned at key junctions to assist drivers in navigating the altered traffic patterns.

DTC recovery vans will be deployed at several locations across the city, ensuring assistance is available from 5 am on August 15 until traffic diversions are lifted. Additionally, attendees of the Independence Day events are discouraged from bringing various items, including cameras and large bags, to enhance security efficiency.
