Five-Year-Old Girl Kidnapped and Assaulted in Uttar Pradesh

The CSR Journal Magazine

A five-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped while returning home with her grandfather in Uttar Pradesh. Police have confirmed that a 29-year-old man was apprehended in connection with the incident. The girl was reportedly rescued shortly after the incident, and a medical examination verified that she had been sexually assaulted.

The case was officially registered on June 12, following a complaint lodged by the girl’s father. Authorities stated that, based on the child’s statement and supporting medical evidence, charges under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with rape, were added, along with pertinent sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The suspect, named Chandan Kumar Shah, has been arrested and is now in custody. The investigation has gained significant attention, given the serious nature of the allegations against him.

Details of the Incident

On the evening of June 11, the girl was riding a motorcycle with her grandfather when they stopped near a cold storage facility on Bansdih Road. The grandfather needed to use the restroom, during which time the alleged perpetrator arrived on his motorcycle. It is reported that he took the girl from her grandfather and fled the scene.

Local police have indicated that the girl was found the same day the incident was reported. Bansdih Road Station House Officer, Vansh Bahadur Singh, provided information stating that the accused was arrested on June 13, at a location near Dhelahwa Baba leading to Dubhad. Additionally, the motorcycle believed to have been used in the crime has been recovered.

The police action has been met with a mixture of relief and concern among local residents. The swift response in rescuing the girl and apprehending the suspect demonstrates a concerted effort by local law enforcement to address serious crimes in the area.

Broader Context of Sexual Assault in Uttar Pradesh

The incident involving the young girl is one of several concerning cases of sexual assault in Uttar Pradesh. In March, a similar case occurred in Baghpat, where a man was arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman after offering her and her younger sisters a lift while returning from an Eid fair.

According to the mother of the young woman, the suspect, identified as Deepak, persuaded the sisters to enter his car under the false pretence of providing a ride home. He reportedly locked the younger sisters inside the vehicle and took the eldest sister to an isolated location, where he assaulted her.

The victim informed the police that the perpetrator threatened her with a weapon, warning her against resisting or disclosing the incident. The truth surfaced two days later when the younger sisters, aged six and 12, confided in their mother, leading the family to approach law enforcement. Following the filing of a complaint, a case was registered, and the accused was arrested under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita while an investigation continues.

The rise in incidents of sexual assault in Uttar Pradesh has prompted discussions about the safety of women and children in the region. Advocacy for stricter measures to prevent such crimes and protect vulnerable individuals is increasing among local communities and organisations tasked with addressing such issues.
