Two teenage girls reportedly attempted suicide by consuming poison in Chitrakoot district, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday. According to police officials, the incident occurred after the girls were filmed while bathing in the Yamuna river. The case has gained significant attention, highlighting issues of privacy and mental health among young individuals in the region.

The young girls, aged 16 and 17, were taken to the community health centre in Pahari after consuming the poison. Superintendent of Police (SP) Arun Kumar Singh confirmed that a memo was received from the health centre regarding their condition. Upon arrival, the police learned that the girls had already been referred to the district hospital in Karwi for further medical attention.

Following initial treatment, the girls were then transferred to Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda for advanced care. SP Singh stated that while being transported, they recounted their harrowing experience. They mentioned that they had been bathing in the river the previous day when individuals began taking photos and videos of them without their consent.

Family Reaction and Emotional Distress

Upon learning about the incident, the families of the girls reportedly scolded them, which intensified their emotional distress. SP Singh explained that the pressure and humiliation they faced within their homes contributed to their decision to consume poison.
