Father And Son Rescued Alive From Venezuela Rubble Four Days After Deadly Quakes

The CSR Journal Magazine

A father and his son were rescued alive from the debris of a collapsed building in Venezuela on Sunday, nearly four days after powerful earthquakes struck the country, offering a glimmer of hope as rescue teams continue searching for survivors.

The pair were found in La Guaira, one of the regions hardest hit by Wednesday’s earthquakes, which have killed at least 1,450 people and left thousands still unaccounted for. Their survival comes as emergency crews battle worsening conditions and shrinking chances of locating more people alive beneath the rubble.

Complex Rescue Operation Lasted 12 Hours

Rescue workers carried the father and son through debris-strewn streets on makeshift stretchers after successfully extracting them from the collapsed structure. Both appeared weak and were immediately taken to ambulances for urgent medical attention.

Emergency responders said the two had spent nearly 96 hours trapped beneath the rubble. Despite being severely dehydrated and exhausted, they were found alive after an intensive rescue effort involving French and American search-and-rescue teams.

Specialised cameras and detection equipment were used to identify signs of life beneath unstable debris. Rescuers then spent hours carefully clearing rubble and creating a safe route to reach the trapped victims while medical teams prepared intravenous fluids and other emergency support ahead of the extraction.

Rescues Raise Hope Amid Mounting Challenges

The successful operation came a day after the same international rescue teams saved a woman and her nine-month-old baby from another collapsed building in the disaster zone.

Those rescues have provided a measure of optimism for families still waiting for news of missing relatives, even as experts warn that the likelihood of finding additional survivors decreases significantly with each passing day.

Authorities said at least 33 people have been pulled alive from collapsed structures over the weekend, underscoring the determination of rescue workers continuing round-the-clock operations across affected areas.

Thousands Still Missing After Devastating Earthquakes

La Guaira, a coastal state in northern Venezuela, suffered some of the most extensive damage when powerful earthquakes struck the country on Wednesday.

Officials have reported at least 1,450 deaths, while tens of thousands of people remain missing. Search efforts are continuing across multiple locations as emergency crews race against time to locate survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings.

With more than 72 hours having passed since the disaster, rescue specialists caution that survival prospects are becoming increasingly limited. Nevertheless, recent rescues have reinforced hopes that more people may still be found alive as operations continue in the hardest-hit communities.
