In Rajasthan and Telangana cases of killing dogs have come to limelight, on Monday night a dog was shot dead in Ramnagar village, Sikar district of Rajasthan. And on January 11, nine people were booked, including 2 sarpanches of Hanumakonda district of Telangana for alleged mass killing of 300 stray dogs.
In the Sikar case, bullet marks were seen at two places on the dog’s body. In the bounded state, the dog ran to his caretaker’s home and died outside the house. Residents of the village immediately made video of the incident and informed the local police. Upon receiving the complaint, police immediately reached the spot and started an investigation. Currently, the dog’s body is sent for postmortem. In a media briefing, the ASI Rohitashv Kumar shared that a dog has been shot dead in Ramnagar village. “2 bullet wounds were found on the dog’s body, and a post-mortem report suggests that the dog died due to excessive blood loss that was caused by the gunshot injuries.” He further noted that local residents are being investigated to trace the owner of the dog, no report has been filed in this matter.


Mass killing of 300 stray dogs in Telangana
On January 11, nine people including two sarpanches were booked for allegedly killing around 300 stray dogs in Hanumakonda district of Telangana. The case came to limelight when a local Ngo approached the Shayampet police station to report the incident of systematic killing. As per the complaint, the incidents happened within a three days period, between Jan 6 to Jan 8. Post the complaint the two sarpanches of Shayampet and Arepally have been booked under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. This case of mass killing of dogs is very crucial at a time when there is a discussion on stray dogs in the Supreme Court. Last year, the Supreme Court ordered the relocation of stray dogs in Delhi to an enclosed area.

25 dogs killed in Jhunjhunu
25 dogs were shot dead in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan in August last year. A video of the killing was also released where a man was seen walking with a gun and shooting the dogs. This incident was of Kumawas village of Nawalgarh area. In that case the miscreant was identified as Sheochand Bawaria, son of Surjaram Bawaria, a resident of Dumra. In that case the accused claimed that the dogs had killed his goats, but the sarpanch claimed the story to be false. Rather the accused Sheochand was demanding money on the false pretext that the dogs killed his goats. “It was a well-planned conspiracy as the same group had come to the village 5 months back,” noted the sarpanch.
