The e-Committee of the Supreme Court, in association with the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Department of Justice, will officially launch 26 Mobile e-Sewa Vans. This event is scheduled for September 4, 2026, at 2 pm at the Supreme Court’s Administrative Buildings Complex in New Delhi. The Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, will preside over the inauguration ceremony, marking a significant step forward in improving access to legal services in India.

Objective of the Mobile e-Sewa Vans

The primary purpose of the Mobile e-Sewa Vans is to facilitate e-Court services, legal aid, and dispute resolution in remote and underserved areas. This initiative aims to extend the reach of the ongoing e-Courts Project, striving to bridge the digital divide that often hampers access to justice for citizens living in distant locales. By bringing judicial and legal services directly to the communities, the programme seeks to ensure that essential legal resources are more widely available.

These vans are part of a larger plan that involves the deployment of a total of 73 Mobile e-Sewa Vans throughout specific High Court and district court jurisdictions across the nation. Equipped with modern technology, each van will provide various legal services including digital e-filing, secure e-payments, and Mobile Lok Adalats. Furthermore, they will also conduct legal literacy programmes aimed at educating citizens about their rights and the judicial process.

Each van will be furnished with high-speed connectivity and video conferencing facilities, enabling secure remote hearings and witness depositions from locations outside the courts. This technological integration is expected to significantly streamline processes, providing an effective platform for delivering legal services in areas that are traditionally difficult to access.

The flag-off event will witness the presence of several dignitaries. Besides Chief Justice Surya Kant, Supreme Court judge and Chairman of the e-Committee, Justice Vikram Nath will also be attending. Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Justice Anjani Kumar Mishra, the Vice Chairman of the e-Committee, are expected to grace the occasion as well. Their involvement underscores the importance of this initiative in the Indian judicial system.

In addition to Supreme Court judges, senior officials from the Department of Justice, NALSA, and the Ministry of Home Affairs will be present. Officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the National Informatics Centre, as well as representatives from the Bar Council of India, will also attend the ceremony. Their collective participation highlights a multi-agency approach towards enhancing access to justice through technology.

This initiative reflects a commitment to leverage technology in the legal sector, aiming to improve efficiency and transparency while making judicial services more accessible. By utilising Mobile e-Sewa Vans, the Supreme Court e-Committee seeks to make significant strides in delivering justice to every corner of the nation.
