Sequel to Akshay Kumar’s Heyy Babyy Announced for Filming in Australia

The CSR Journal Magazine

The producer Sajid Nadiadwala has officially announced the long-awaited sequel to the successful 2007 film, Heyy Babyy, named Heyy Babyy 2. This announcement took place on Thursday during a meeting with New South Wales Premier Chris Minns in Mumbai. The sequel will once again feature Australia as its filming location, mirroring the original film’s setting.

Nadiadwala revealed a three-film agreement to shoot various upcoming projects in Australia, with Heyy Babyy 2 forming a significant part of this plan. The original movie, which directed by Sajid Khan, garnered mixed reactions from critics but performed exceptionally well at the box office, highlighting the potential for the sequel to attract a similar audience.

The first film starred prominent actors including Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Fardeen Khan. Its plot revolved around three bachelors who unexpectedly find themselves responsible for a baby, a scenario that contributed to significant comedic elements throughout the film.

Collaboration with Australian Entities

This new production initiative represents a collaboration between Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Australian authorities through TEMPLE, based in Sydney. Nadiadwala expressed enthusiasm for returning to Australia, noting the country’s beauty and its status as a film-friendly destination with a supportive infrastructure for filmmakers.

“In Australia, we experienced not only breathtaking landscapes but also a warm, professional environment that made filming a delightful experience,” stated Nadiadwala. He reminisced about the positive experiences his team had during the original shoot, suggesting that these factors played a crucial role in the decision to film three more projects there.

Premier Chris Minns underscored the significance of this collaboration, describing Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment as an important name in Indian cinema. He remarked on the value of their choosing Australia for their upcoming films as a testament to the country’s film industry. Minns highlighted the long-standing relationship between Nadiadwala’s production company and Australia, recalling the first film’s successful shoot nearly two decades ago.

Future Plans and Additional Projects

Accompanying the announcement of Heyy Babyy 2, the producers have not yet disclosed details regarding the cast’s return or whether Sajid Khan will resume directorial duties. Meanwhile, Nadiadwala is also backing another project, O’Romeo, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, which is expected to release in 2026 and will feature a notable ensemble cast, including Shahid Kapoor, Tripti Dimri, Disha Patani, Nana Patekar, Farida Jalal, and Avinash Tiwary.

O’Romeo adds to Nadiadwala’s expanding catalogue of films, as he maintains a focus on projects that exhibit considerable potential for both critical and commercial success. The excitement around Heyy Babyy 2, paired with these other initiatives, reflects a broader trend of Indian filmmakers increasingly engaging with international markets, particularly in Australia.

As the production timeline for Heyy Babyy 2 unfolds, more updates regarding the creative team and casting decisions are anticipated, further intensifying interest among fans of the original film and the Indian film community at large.
