Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisories During Heavy Rain and Waterlogging

The CSR Journal Magazine

Heavy rainfall across Delhi has caused significant disruptions in traffic, leading to waterlogging, vehicle breakdowns, and slow-moving vehicles in multiple areas. The Delhi Traffic Police have been actively engaged on the ground, providing assistance to stranded drivers, clearing affected routes, and issuing advisories to mitigate disruptions. Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and consider alternative routes when necessary.

Traffic Police Assist Stranded Motorists

During the rainfall, personnel from the Libaspur and Samay Pur Badli Circle assisted a tempo driver whose vehicle had become immobilised on a flooded road. The timely intervention allowed the vehicle to be safely relocated, thereby restoring traffic flow in the area. Meanwhile, at the ITO Red Light, traffic officers promptly addressed a situation where a vehicle broke down at a busy intersection during peak hours. Their swift action helped alleviate congestion despite the adverse weather conditions.

In addition to these incidents, traffic management efforts have been concentrated on various critical points around the city with personnel deployed to ensure smooth vehicle movement. Dewatering operations were initiated at several locations experiencing waterlogging to facilitate the restoration of normal traffic patterns.

Traffic Advisory Issued for NH-24

The Delhi Traffic Police have released a traffic advisory related to severe waterlogging reported on NH-24 near Ghazipur. Traffic movement on this highway has been significantly obstructed due to water accumulation. In response, teams from both the Traffic Police and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have collaborated to clear the roadway. Commuters travelling from Ghaziabad to Delhi are strongly advised to avoid the affected stretch and opt for alternate routes. The alternative suggested includes travelling via Sector 62, Vasundhara, Budh Chowk, and Mohan Nagar, before entering Delhi through Seemapuri.

Additional locations with reported traffic issues include Murga Mandi in Ghazipur, where waterlogging has also affected movement. Dewatering operations are currently underway, and traffic personnel are managing the situation. Similarly, the Pandav Nagar underpass is experiencing waterlogging, and authorities are advising drivers to proceed with caution. On the service road near the Shamshan Ghat, traffic management and dewatering efforts are ongoing to alleviate congestion.

Authorities Maintain Public Safety and Encourage Caution

The Delhi Traffic Police have noted the occurrence of waterlogging at several sites throughout East Delhi. They have mobilised personnel to manage vehicle movement and alleviate congestion by initiating dewatering operations promptly. Authorities are advising commuters to remain patient, drive slowly on flooded routes, and closely follow traffic officials’ directions to ensure safety.

In a social media update, the Delhi Traffic Police stated their officers remained deployed despite the challenging weather to keep the roads functional and safeguard commuter safety. The department has appealed to motorists to avoid sudden lane changes, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and account for extra travel time during heavy rain to minimise risks on the roads.
