Delhi-NCR Experiences Rain And Thunderstorms Providing Relief From Heat

The CSR Journal Magazine

On Thursday evening, heavy rain and thunderstorms swept through various regions of Delhi-NCR, offering much-needed relief from the intense heat that had affected the area in recent days. Dark clouds gathered over the capital as the rain began, bringing a sudden end to soaring temperatures.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had anticipated thunderstorms, with rainfall and strong winds expected to reach up to 70 kmph in isolated areas. This weather change is seen as a temporary reprieve from the high temperatures experienced earlier in the week.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius on Thursday, which is two degrees higher than the seasonal average. Before the rain commenced, the maximum temperature was projected to rise to approximately 41 degrees Celsius.

Weather Forecast And Alerts

The IMD has indicated that thunderstorms, along with rain, are expected to continue into Friday. Generally cloudy skies are likely to prevail from June 14 to June 16, ensuring that the respite from the heat will persist over the coming days.

This inclement weather is part of a larger system affecting numerous regions across the country. According to the IMD, an active western disturbance, the advancing Southwest Monsoon, and several cyclonic circulations are currently driving thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds across various states.

The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, as well as remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, along with portions of West Bengal and Bihar, as noted by the weather office.

Warnings for North India

Earlier on Thursday, residents across Delhi-NCR and adjacent areas of northern India were alerted via emergency notifications on their mobile devices. These alerts warned of the likelihood of severe thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rain, and winds that could reach speeds of up to 100 kmph in parts of western Uttar Pradesh.

The IMD’s weather predictions play a crucial role in preparing residents for sudden changes, effectively aiding in the safeguarding of public safety during severe weather events. With the advance of the monsoon and changing weather patterns, it remains essential for individuals to remain informed and vigilant.
