Delhi Government Initiates Temple Tourism Circuit Linking Akshardham with Key Shrines

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi government is planning to create a temple tourism circuit that will facilitate travel from Akshardham to significant religious sites, including the historic Yogmaya Temple. This initiative is aimed at enhancing spiritual tourism in the city and will feature dedicated buses designed specifically for visitors.

As reported, the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) is currently in the process of tendering for this project. Upon completion, visitors will be able to book seats on these buses via the government’s platform, “Dekho Mere Delhi,” into which the new circuit will be integrated once it launches.

Key Destinations on the Proposed Route

The planned route for the temple tourism circuit will encompass several prominent religious sites. Key destinations include Akshardham, Birla Mandir, the Lord Venkateshwara (Balaji) Temple, Kali Bari in CR Park, and the Yogmaya Temple in Mehrauli. This arrangement allows tourists to visit multiple places of worship through a single, well-organised journey.

Initial plans suggest that the service will commence with two customised buses, which will facilitate visitor movement between the various spiritual sites. The DTTDC intends to evaluate public response to the service before considering any expansions to the fleet or route. Due to height and route constraints, smaller buses may be employed to ensure easy access to all destinations.

Officials emphasised the importance of this initiative in broadening the appeal of Delhi’s tourism profile, which has predominantly centred on heritage locations. By focusing on major temples and places of worship, the government aims to attract both devotees and tourists alike throughout the year.

Supporting Events and Wider Tourism Initiatives

This spiritual circuit is part of a broader array of tourism initiatives currently being pursued by the Delhi government. Efforts in this regard include campaigns for heritage promotion, conservation of monuments, and programs designed to encourage residents to engage with the city’s rich cultural assets.

Earlier this year, the government also introduced a hop-on, hop-off double-decker sightseeing bus service that connects various prominent monuments and attractions in the capital. The forthcoming spiritual tourism circuit is intended to complement this service by concentrating exclusively on temples and religious sites.

While preparatory work for the new tourism initiative is actively underway, a specific launch date has yet to be confirmed, keeping stakeholders anticipating further updates. The initiative aims to provide a structured and enriching experience for those exploring the capital’s spiritual landscape.
