Authorities in Begusarai district, Bihar, have initiated a thorough investigation following claims by a woman stating that she was gang-raped by five men on the night of June 11. The incident allegedly occurred when the victim left her home to use the toilet. According to her account, she was approached by the accused, who overpowered her and dragged her to an isolated area.

Upon her arrival at a hospital following the incident, medical staff discovered foreign objects within her body during treatment days later. The doctors reportedly recovered a cartridge-like object, a stone, and a piece of wood, raising serious concerns about the assault. The woman was discharged from the hospital on June 12 but continued to experience significant pain.

On June 17, after failing to find relief, she returned to the district hospital for further examinations. It was then that more detailed medical assessments, including an ultrasound, were performed, which led to the discovery of the aforementioned objects. The severity of her injuries has drawn additional attention from medical professionals and law enforcement.

Allegations of Police Inaction

The victim has alleged that despite her immediate report to the police following the attack, little action was taken on her behalf. She claims that some of the men involved had assaulted her and attempted sexual violence about three months ago, a matter for which a case was allegedly filed previously.

These allegations prompted senior police officials to visit the hospital for a reassessment of the situation and to record the victim’s statement anew. Recognising the seriousness of the matter, police teams led by high-ranking officers have been assembled to delve into the case further, utilising scientific methods for a comprehensive investigation.

Begusarai Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar Pandey confirmed the recovery of the objects during medical treatment and stated that the victim’s claims appear credible at this point in the inquiry. Furthermore, the police have noted that the woman presented allegations of rape during her statement before a court.
