Israeli forces, accompanied by settlers, have launched operations in the town of Tal and surrounding areas southwest of Nablus, escalating recent tensions in the occupied West Bank. Reports indicate that at least 11 Palestinians, among them four children, sustained injuries during a raid in the Junaid neighbourhood of Nablus on 31 July 2026. Medical sources confirmed these injuries, highlighting a significant increase in violence in the region.

Witnesses reported the use of live ammunition, stun grenades, and tear gas by Israeli forces during the operation. The Palestine Red Crescent Society mentioned that one individual was shot in the stomach amid the chaos. Residents expressed distress over the growing confrontations that have become commonplace in their daily lives.

Detentions and Military Actions Across the West Bank

The Israeli military reportedly detained at least 10 individuals on the same day across various towns in the occupied West Bank, including Nablus, Tal, Salem, and Bethlehem. Multiple videos shared by Palestinian social media accounts and verified by news organisations depict a significant presence of Israeli soldiers in Tal during the earlier hours of the day.

An Israeli military statement clarified that “Israeli civilians” had entered Area A of the West Bank, an area where such actions are prohibited under Israeli law. The statement also mentioned that all civilians had exited the Nablus vicinity. Additionally, there were claims regarding the vandalism of a Palestinian cemetery during the raids.

Earlier on 30 July, Israeli forces had reportedly conducted a raid in Tal, taking over four Palestinian homes and turning them into military barracks. This operation occurred amid a backdrop of tensions following the deaths of two Israelis linked to recent skirmishes with residents of Tal.

Escalation of Settler Attacks and Community Raids

The frequency of settler attacks has markedly escalated across the occupied West Bank, according to various reports. In the preceding week, the situation took a severe turn when four Palestinians were killed and several others wounded during one of the most intense waves of settler violence seen recently. Settlers reportedly set fire to Palestinian homes and vehicles in those incidents.

Israeli soldiers have intensified their presence in the Tal and Nablus areas this week, imposing what some describe as a blockade on the communities. On the same day that the injuries were reported, similar raids were conducted in the Qaddura refugee camp in Ramallah, resulting in the use of tear gas and at least one person being detained.

Additionally, Israeli forces apprehended several individuals in areas surrounding Tal, including one man in Bethlehem’s Wadi Shahin area and another in Anabta, which is located east of Tulkarem. Reports from the Palestinian news agency WAFA noted that soldiers temporarily detained several young men during a separate raid in Salfit but later released them.

In a related incident on the evening of 30 July, WAFA reported an injury sustained by a man to his neck when Israeli soldiers fired upon his vehicle in the town of Beita, located to the south of Nablus. This incident underscores the ongoing volatility and risks facing residents in the area.
