The CSR Journal Magazine

The alarming incident involving an attendant at BRIMS Teaching Hospital in Bidar, Karnataka, has raised serious ethical concerns. According to reports, Munir Ahmed, an employee of the hospital mortuary for several years, allegedly took unauthorised photographs of deceased women. The complaint was formally lodged by Dr Mosinul Haq, the head of the department, on May 25, 2026.

Dr Haq’s complaint claims that during post-mortem procedures, Ahmed removed clothing from the corpses of female deceased individuals and captured nude images using his personal mobile device. These actions were undertaken without any legal justification or professional necessity, leading to serious allegations against his conduct.

The hospital authorities characterised Ahmed’s behaviour as a significant violation of professional ethics and medical confidentiality. They stated that such actions not only disrespected the deceased but also disregarded the feelings of their grieving families. The ethical breach has prompted calls for stricter oversight in mortuary practices.

Police Investigation and Legal Actions Initiated

Once the complaint was filed, the Bidar New Town Police took immediate action by registering a case against the accused under Sections 301 and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections pertain to serious criminal offences, reflecting the gravity of the allegations against Ahmed.

Authorities have commenced a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the incident, aiming to gather comprehensive evidence and further testimony regarding the actions of the accused. Police have stated that they will take additional measures based on the findings as the investigation unfolds.

The local police force remains committed to ensuring that proper legal procedures are followed and justice is served, reinforcing the importance of maintaining ethical standards in healthcare and mortuary services. Family members of the deceased are reportedly being kept informed of the ongoing investigation.

Ethical Concerns Raised Within Healthcare Community

The incident has triggered wider discussions about ethical oversight within mortuary facilities across the region. Hospital officials and regulatory bodies are now stressing the necessity of stringent protocols to safeguard the dignity and privacy of deceased individuals.

In light of this event, healthcare organisations are urged to undertake comprehensive reviews of their policies regarding the treatment of deceased patients. This encompasses not only maintaining ethical standards but also ensuring that all staff members are adequately trained in respecting the confidentiality and integrity of the deceased.

With a focus on protecting the feelings and rights of the families affected, authorities have recognised the urgent need for initiatives to improve oversight in healthcare practices associated with post-mortem examinations. The aim is to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future and restore trust within the healthcare community regarding mortuary services.
