Apple Unveils Siri AI, Smarter Apple Intelligence And iOS 27 At WWDC 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple unveiled a sweeping artificial intelligence strategy at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, introducing a rebuilt Siri, enhanced Apple Intelligence features, major software upgrades and a host of AI-powered tools across its ecosystem in what many see as the company’s strongest response yet to the rapidly evolving AI race.

The keynote carried added significance as it marked the final WWDC presentation led by Apple CEO Tim Cook before leadership transitions to John Ternus on September 1. With growing pressure from rivals that have aggressively integrated artificial intelligence into their products, Apple used the event to showcase a comprehensive vision for AI that spans iPhones, Macs, iPads, Apple Watches and Vision Pro devices.

The announcements signal a major shift in Apple’s software strategy as the company seeks to blend powerful AI capabilities with its long-standing focus on privacy and user experience.

Siri Gets Biggest Upgrade In Its History

At the centre of Apple’s AI push is Siri AI, a complete overhaul of the company’s voice assistant built on a new artificial intelligence architecture developed in collaboration with Google and based on the Gemini family of models.

Apple said Siri AI is designed to be significantly more conversational and context-aware than previous versions. The assistant can understand personal context, work seamlessly across applications and maintain continuity across devices through iCloud synchronisation.

The new Siri also receives its own dedicated application and a redesigned visual interface. Apple demonstrated how the assistant can analyse information displayed on a user’s screen and provide contextual assistance, bringing functionality similar to visual search tools already available from competitors.

Users will also gain greater control over Siri’s behaviour, including the ability to adjust speaking speed, modify accents and interact through text input. Siri AI will be available across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, CarPlay and Vision Pro ecosystems, although launch availability will exclude the European Union and China due to regulatory considerations.

Apple Intelligence Expands Across The Ecosystem

Beyond Siri, Apple announced major upgrades to Apple Intelligence, integrating AI deeper into everyday applications and workflows.

The company said Apple Intelligence will now be capable of managing Safari tabs, updating compromised passwords, generating context-aware replies in Messages and understanding information across multiple applications simultaneously.

Users will be able to create calendar events directly from conversations, track product price changes on websites and retrieve information from Mail and Messages while on phone calls. The Home app is also receiving AI-powered enhancements that improve security camera alerts and combine footage from multiple cameras into unified clips.

Apple’s Health platform is gaining additional support for menopause and perimenopause tracking, while Messages, Photos and Safari are becoming increasingly context-aware through deeper AI integration.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, emphasised the company’s privacy-first approach, stating that data processed through cloud systems is used solely to fulfil user requests. Apple said its AI infrastructure combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute technology to minimise exposure of personal information.

The company also unveiled new developer tools, including APIs, image-generation capabilities and support for third-party AI models through a new Core AI framework.

iOS 27 And macOS Golden Gate Focus On Speed And Personalisation

Apple also introduced iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate, bringing both performance improvements and interface refinements.

The company confirmed that iOS 27 will support all devices currently running iOS 26, including the iPhone 11 series. Apple claims the update will allow applications to launch up to 30 per cent faster, display newly captured photos more quickly and significantly accelerate AirDrop transfers.

Users will also gain more control over the Liquid Glass design language introduced previously, with options to adjust transparency levels and customise the appearance of the interface.

Additional features include smarter transitions between Wi-Fi and cellular networks, support for Android and Windows users within iCloud Shared Albums, custom AirPods equaliser settings and enhanced Flyover experiences in Maps.

Meanwhile, macOS Golden Gate introduces redesigned toolbars, refreshed app icons, colour-coded sidebars and rounded window corners. Siri AI will be deeply integrated into Spotlight search, allowing users to analyse files, ask complex questions and launch advanced workflows directly from the desktop.

Apple also highlighted upgrades to Image Playground and Photos. Users can create AI-generated lock screens, contact posters and message backgrounds, while new editing tools such as Reframe, Expand and improved Clean Up functions offer more advanced image manipulation capabilities.

Taken together, the announcements represent Apple’s most ambitious artificial intelligence rollout to date, signalling the company’s determination to remain competitive in a technology landscape increasingly defined by AI-powered experiences.
