Apple Set to Unveil Three iPhone Models in September, Excluding Standard iPhone 18

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple will host its developer conference on June 8, unveiling the next version of its software platforms, including iOS 27. Following this event, the countdown to the launch of new iPhones will commence. However, based on circulating information, it appears that the standard iPhone 18 may not debut this autumn alongside the premium models.

Focus on Premium Models

Reports indicate that this year, Apple might prioritize the launch of three high-end devices: the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the company’s first foldable iPhone. The standard iPhone 18, along with the iPhone 18e and a second-generation Air model, could be postponed until early 2027, breaking Apple’s traditional pattern of simultaneous fall launches.

The Foldable iPhone Takes Center Stage

This strategic shift appears to be aimed at giving prominence to the Pro models and the foldable device. The foldable iPhone is expected to be a significant highlight, with recent leaks suggesting a design reminiscent of the original Google Pixel Fold. It is anticipated to feature a spacious inner display and a compact outer screen, with a 7.8-inch foldable OLED display inside and a 5.5-inch cover screen outside, marking it as Apple’s largest display to date. Furthermore, the foldable model is projected to be exceptionally slim, measuring around 4.7mm when opened, and could be priced above $2,000, positioning it in the ultra-premium segment.

Enhancements in the iPhone 18 Pro Series

Alongside the foldable device, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to undergo various refinements rather than extensive redesigns. The anticipated upgrades are likely to focus on display enhancements, camera improvements, performance, and battery longevity. Noteworthy changes may include new color options, with rumors suggesting shades such as Dark Cherry and Cloud Blue, among others. Display sizes are likely to remain at 6.3 inches for the iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max, with a transition to LTPO+ OLED panels that could provide superior brightness and energy efficiency.

Camera System Innovations

The camera system is expected to see significant advancements, with Apple reportedly evaluating a variable-aperture main camera to enhance light intake. This feature could improve performance in low-light conditions and during video recording. Additionally, a new three-layer stacked image sensor might be introduced for better dynamic range and faster image processing. Other enhancements may include a wider aperture for the telephoto camera and an upgrade to a 24-megapixel front-facing camera.

Performance Upgrades with the A20 Pro Chip

Both the Pro models are anticipated to be powered by Apple’s forthcoming A20 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. This new chipset is rumored to deliver up to a 15 percent increase in performance and a 30 percent enhancement in energy efficiency. Apple could also boost RAM to 12GB, improving multitasking capabilities. The iPhone 18 Pro Max may feature a battery capacity between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh, likely positioning it as one of the most powerful in the iPhone Pro lineup. Additional improvements may include Apple’s next-generation C2 modem for enhanced connectivity.

Updates for the Standard iPhone 18

While substantial attention is directed towards the iPhone 18 Pro models and the foldable iPhone, the standard iPhone 18 is expected to retain a relatively unchanged design. It is likely to feature a similar appearance and a 6.3-inch display, along with enhancements in OLED technology for better brightness and efficiency. There are indications that features like the smaller Dynamic Island may also be introduced for the standard variant in the future. The device is set to include Apple’s A20 chip, also built on the 2nm process, which will offer substantial gains in performance and energy efficiency, alongside improvements in its camera system and connectivity features.
