Further complicating the situation, healthcare facilities struggle to manage patients due to a shortage of resources. After being stabilised at a local hospital, Iqbal’s brother required urgent transfer to a larger facility in Islamabad, underscoring criticism of the healthcare response under current conditions.

The protests originated from the government’s decision to ban the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which had demanded the removal of certain legislative assembly seats. This move prompted widespread demonstrations leading to strikes and significant unrest, with many residents reporting that their access to essential goods and services has become extremely limited.

Malik Niaz Ahmed, president of a local traders’ association, noted that businesses and students have been significantly affected. The closure of roads has severely disrupted the supply of government-subsidised wheat, leading to inflated market prices for flour. Business owners like Malik Dawood have witnessed dramatic drops in revenue, unable to contact clients or suppliers due to the ongoing connectivity issues. He articulated the significant financial losses sustained and questioned why such extensive measures were being enforced when only specific agitators needed to be addressed.

As protests continue, there seems to be a growing divide in public sentiment towards the JAAC’s methods. Some residents have expressed skepticism about the efficacy of street protests compared to parliamentary resolutions, suggesting that alternatives should be pursued in addressing their grievances without causing widespread disruption.

Government officials maintain that life is returning to normal in most areas, yet this assertion contrasts starkly with the experiences reported by many residents.
