Apple has initiated the rollout of the iOS 27 public beta, prominently featuring a revamped Siri AI. This marks a significant shift for Apple, aiming to elevate its virtual assistant, now known as Siri AI, to compete more effectively against rivals like ChatGPT and Gemini.

Siri AI operates on Google’s Gemini AI models and includes a dedicated application. The new assistant can engage in continuous dialogue, comprehend follow-up inquiries, and access personal information across various applications, including Mail, Messages, and Calendar. This enhancement aims to provide users with a more intelligent interactive experience.

Additionally, Siri AI is equipped to perform tasks within applications and respond to broader queries, while retaining chat histories through iCloud. Users will also have tools to adjust Siri’s tone and pace, allowing for greater personalisation. It is important to note that the new features are compatible only with iPhone 15 Pro models and higher, and initial support is limited to select English dialects.

Other Features in iOS 27 Public Beta

Beyond Siri, iOS 27 introduces a variety of AI-driven enhancements across several applications. The Photos app has received a more efficient Clean Up tool that excels in removing unwanted elements from images. Users can also extend images via AI, and a new Spatial Reframing feature allows adjustments to the apparent camera angle post-capture.

The Safari browser has been upgraded as well, allowing users to organise tabs by topic and manage bookmarks more effectively. It now includes capabilities to monitor webpage updates and create specialised extensions based on natural-language prompts.

Moreover, the Passwords app can automatically replace weak or compromised passwords, while the Shortcuts application enables users to establish automations through plain-language commands. Other enhancements include event creation in Calendar through natural language and improvements in writing assistance, enabling better grammar and spell-checking functionalities.

Installation Process and Device Compatibility

The iOS 27 public beta version is available for free and does not require a developer account. This new update supports all iPhones compatible with iOS 26, notably including iPhone 11 and newer models, along with the second generation of iPhone SE and later.

Apple recommends creating a backup of your iPhone either through iCloud or a computer before installation, as beta software may present bugs and compatibility challenges. Users can download the beta by visiting the iOS beta page on Apple’s website using Safari on their device, signing in with their Apple Account, and following the prompts for the software update.
