Adobe has announced the release of a new artificial intelligence tool named Student Spaces within its PDF software, Adobe Acrobat. This feature aims to enhance students’ study habits by generating various types of study materials, including presentations, flashcards, and quizzes, from documents and links uploaded to the platform. Initially available in a beta version, Student Spaces can be accessed for free online without the need for account registration.

Functionality of Student Spaces

Students can upload more than one hundred different files to Student Spaces, such as PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoints, Excel sheets, web links, handwritten notes, and transcripts. The tool is capable of producing multiple forms of educational resources, including flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, videos, podcasts, and editable presentations. It utilises Adobe Express, a cloud-based tool for content creation, to facilitate the generation of these study materials.

Additionally, the platform includes an AI-powered chatbot that enables students to pose queries and interact in real time. Adobe indicates that the chatbot’s responses are grounded in the content of uploaded documents, thereby aiming to minimise errors. The company also disclosed that Student Spaces has undergone testing with over five hundred students, including participants from renowned institutions such as Harvard, the University of California, Berkeley, and Brown University.

This launch comes after Adobe’s earlier introduction of PDF Spaces, a feature designed primarily for professionals. In January 2025, PDF Spaces was unveiled, allowing users to collaboratively access and organise their files and notes. Like Student Spaces, it provides capabilities to create presentations based on stored documents, including financial reports, product plans, and competitor analyses using straightforward text prompts.

Competition and Market Context

While Adobe’s Student Spaces brings a new option for students seeking to streamline their studying process, it is not the first tool of its kind on the market. Competing platforms, such as Google’s NotebookLM, Goodnotes, and Turbo AI, offer similar functionalities that permit users to upload documents and generate a range of study materials. Adobe’s entry into this space appears to be somewhat delayed, considering rival products like NotebookLM and Goodnotes have been available since July and August 2023, respectively, alongside Turbo AI, which launched in 2024.
