Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath articulated the belief that while non-violence should guide humanity, force might be necessary when confronting individuals who threaten the nation. During the inauguration of the Nausena Shaurya Vatika in Lucknow, he underscored the importance of national security and the role of armed forces in providing a secure environment for development. Adityanath stated, “Non-violence should be the true religion of humanity,” but added that in dire situations where a danger emerges, non-violence may not suffice.

Utilising a well-known Sanskrit phrase, Adityanath elaborated on the balance between non-violence and the justification of force in defending righteousness. He noted that a nation’s strength significantly impacts its global standing, remarking, “Only when we are strong on the security front will the world befriend us.” His comments reflect a perception that weakness invites disregard from the global community.

Linking Security and Development

In his speech, Adityanath connected the concepts of security and development, highlighting the substantial progress Uttar Pradesh has experienced over the last decade. He pointed out that prior to 2017, the state frequently faced curfews and rampant criminal activities, which hampered the daily lives of its citizens. The Chief Minister asserted that development can only flourish in a secure atmosphere, indicating a correlation between safety and economic advancement.

He further commended the armed forces for their unyielding commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders. Parents and educational institutions, he suggested, should instill a sense of honour and respect for soldiers in the younger generations. His remarks encapsulated a belief that respect for the armed forces is integral to national identity and security.

During the event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh officially inaugurated the Nausena Shaurya Vatika. Adityanath was joined by Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, whom he credited for their support in initiating the memorial honouring the decommissioned naval warship INS Gomati.

INS Gomati’s New Purpose

Adityanath revealed that the INS Gomati has been repurposed after its retirement from the Indian Navy in 2022, highlighting its new role as a significant monument along the Gomati River in Lucknow. He stated that the vessel had effectively protected India’s maritime borders during its service. The Chief Minister expressed hope that this initiative would inspire youth to learn more about the Indian Navy, thus contributing to the nation’s future.

Evoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India, Adityanath encouraged citizens to actively participate in national progress by fostering respect for armed forces. The Chief Minister implored that the sense of duty towards soldiers is paramount, arguing this respect is foundational to building a strong and cohesive national identity.

By underscoring the dual themes of security and development, Adityanath aimed to reinforce the message that a nation’s strength and safety not only assure its survival but also facilitate its journey towards prosperity. The inauguration of the memorial stands as both a tribute to the armed forces and a symbolical rallying point for future generations in their contributions to society.
