The CSR Journal Magazine

The film Krishnavataram Part 1 has been declared tax-free in Uttar Pradesh, following an announcement by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The decision was made on Sunday, during a special screening held at Lok Bhavan. The state government aims to promote Indian culture and heritage among younger audiences by organising special screenings across various districts.

Directed by Hardik Gajjar, Krishnavataram Part 1 was released on the same day in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The film features prominent actors Siddharth Gupta, Sanskruti, Sushmita Bhatt, and Nivasini Krishnan in leading roles, with Jackie Shroff and Ashutosh Rana in significant supporting parts.

The screening attracted several dignitaries, including Governor Anandiben Patel, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, various cabinet ministers, and BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary. Notably, the event was lively, filled with audience chants of “Krishna-Krishna” and “Radhe-Radhe.” Chief Minister Adityanath took the opportunity to commend the film’s cast and crew, acknowledging their contributions to the project.

Themes of the Film Highlighted

According to Chief Minister Adityanath, the film presents the narratives of Lord Krishna through a human lens, reflecting the Dwapar era along with core Sanatan cultural elements and Indian traditions. The film also includes depictions of characters such as Radha, Rukmini, and Satyabhama, illustrating their significance in mythology.

The screening was particularly meaningful for Governor Anandiben Patel, as her granddaughter, Sanskruti, portrays Satyabhama in the film. Following the screening, Patel expressed her desire for more films based on Indian culture and traditions to be produced in the future.

In response to the tax-free announcement, the film’s producers shared their gratitude on social media platform X, stating their honour in having the film recognised by the Chief Minister. They emphasized the film’s intent to celebrate heritage and culture, seeking to connect audiences across generations.

Content and Critical Reception of the Film

Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam) is the inaugural part of a three-part series that delves into various facets of Lord Krishna’s life. The narrative encompasses his roles as a devoted lover, loyal husband, valiant warrior, and wise strategist. This first part particularly focuses on the challenges Krishna faces as he pursues his duties.

The film has garnered attention for its ambitious visuals and storytelling. India Today rated the film 4 stars, recognising its engaging qualities despite existing flaws. Alongside the critical reception, the publication noted that current societal sentiments might give religious films a demographic edge, further enhancing the interest in this particular release.

As part of the promotional efforts for Krishnavataram, the film’s trailer was launched at significant locations, including Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura and several temples in the region, such as Raman Reti Temple, Radha Rani Temple, Prem Mandir, and ISKCON Vrindavan. These efforts were designed to amplify the film’s cultural connections and maximise audience outreach.
