The CSR Journal Magazine

General Dhiraj Seth, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of India, has arrived in Nepal for an official visit taking place from August 17 to August 19. This visit is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen defence collaboration and military relations between the two nations.

Upon his arrival, General Seth will participate in several key activities. One significant event is a wreath-laying ceremony at the Army Pavilion located in Tundikhel, where he will also receive a Guard of Honour at the Nepali Army Headquarters. These ceremonies are meant to honour the longstanding military ties between India and Nepal.

During this visit, General Seth will engage with his counterpart, the Chief of the Army Staff of the Nepali Army. He is expected to be briefed by the Director General Military Operations of the Nepali Army on matters of mutual interest, reinforcing the collaborative framework between the armed forces of both countries.

Honourary Rank Conferred to General Seth

A notable highlight of General Seth’s trip will be his participation in an Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, where he is to be conferred the Honorary Rank of General of the Nepali Army. This honour will be bestowed upon him by Shri Ram Chandra Paudel, the President of Nepal, reflecting the deep respect and unique tradition shared between the two armies.

The conferral of this honorary rank is part of a historical relationship that has seen Indian Army chiefs receive similar recognition from Nepal in the past. This tradition underscores the deep-rooted partnership that exists within military frameworks and highlights the camaraderie that has developed over the years.

On August 18, General Seth is slated to address student officers participating in the Army Command and Staff Course at Shivapuri. He will also interact with both instructors and foreign student officers, fostering an exchange of knowledge and experience in military education.

Engagements with Veterans and Dignitaries

This visit is underscored by the historical and cultural connections shared between India and Nepal. Both countries enjoy a unique bond characterised by shared values and common goals for regional peace and stability, often articulated through historical references like ‘Roti Beti Ka Rishta.’

General Seth’s official engagements in Nepal are anticipated to open new avenues for defence collaboration, aiming to reinforce peace and security in the region. Such interactions are crucial for maintaining and enhancing the existing bilateral military ties, ensuring that both nations can work harmoniously towards mutual interests in the future.
