Yogi Adityanath Addresses Rally in West Bengal, Criticises TMC Governance

The CSR Journal Magazine

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, recently spoke at a public rally in Mathabhanga, Cooch Behar, emphasising the effective governance under the BJP-led administration both at the Centre and in his state. He remarked on the contrast between law and order in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, stating that Uttar Pradesh has transformed under what he termed the “double-engine government.” Adityanath asserted that the state is now free of riots and curfews, thereby ensuring a peaceful environment for its residents.

During his address, he highlighted the prevalent issues in West Bengal’s governance, particularly focusing on law and order and alleged infiltrations from Bangladesh. He claimed that the state’s citizens live in fear due to these alleged infiltrators and pointed out that over 7,000 factories have reportedly shut down in the past 15 years, attributing the closures to the actions of local TMC-affiliated individuals.

In his criticism of religious expression restrictions in West Bengal, Adityanath claimed that the state’s atmosphere is hostile towards certain religious expressions. He mentioned that even invoking the slogan ‘Jai Shri Ram’ has become problematic. Adityanath further referenced periods of unrest that reportedly occur around significant festivals such as Durga Puja, highlighting what he perceives as an oppressive environment for the state’s Hindu community.

Focus on Crime and Welfare Initiatives

Adityanath outlined the measures taken in Uttar Pradesh against crime and illegal assets, stating that the current administration has adopted strict approaches that include seizing properties linked to criminal activities. These seized assets have reportedly been repurposed into housing projects for the economically disadvantaged. He maintained that such initiatives are feasible only under the effective governance model that the BJP claims to implement.

He underscored the importance of improving welfare delivery for the underprivileged, emphasising that their administration’s efforts are directed towards better governance systems. Adityanath mentioned the provision of homes for 6.5 million people in Uttar Pradesh as a testament to the BJP’s commitment to social welfare.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister reflected on Bengal’s historical role in India’s fight for independence and its rich cultural heritage. He acknowledged the contributions of notable figures such as Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, declaring that Bengal has been a cornerstone of India’s intellectual and economic development.

Political Climate Ahead of Elections

In the context of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, Yogi Adityanath positioned the event as crucial for the state’s future. He accused the opposition, particularly the Congress and Left parties, of obstructing parliamentary processes and hindering the rights of the populace. Adityanath asserted that such political tactics must not deter citizens from making informed electoral decisions.

He described the election as an opportunity for voters to stand against violence and called on them to reject the alleged rioters linked to the TMC. The elections are set for two phases on April 23 and 29, with results expected on May 4. Adityanath’s comments are framed within the backdrop of the TMC’s previous victory, which saw them secure 213 seats in the last elections, while the BJP’s performance improved significantly, claiming 77 seats in contrast to Congress and the Left, who failed to secure any seats.

The political landscape is notably charged as parties gear up for a decisive contest that could reshape governance in West Bengal. The remarks made by Adityanath offer insight into the BJP’s strategies as they aim to solidify their influence in a state historically dominated by the TMC.
