Will Reveal Schedule Within 7-10 Days”: NTA DG Abhishek Singh on NEET-UG Re-Examination

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Abhishek Singh, stated that the timetable for the re-conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 examination will be revealed within the next seven to ten days. This announcement follows the cancellation of the original exam due to allegations of a paper leak. Singh addressed the media in New Delhi and reassured students that the agency is rigorously addressing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During the press interaction, Singh indicated that the NTA is diligently working alongside its team to establish the new examination dates. “We will inform you of the schedule within the next 7-10 days,” he confirmed when questioned about the re-examination timeline. He emphasised the agency’s commitment to preventing any irregularities from impacting future assessments, highlighting the seriousness of the situation at hand.

Investigation and Accountability Measures

When queried about potential insider involvement in the alleged paper leak, Singh responded that the NTA has requested the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take robust action against anyone found responsible, regardless of their association with the agency. “We urge the CBI to arrest and punish anyone involved so that this issue can be addressed at its roots,” Singh remarked, reinforcing the importance of accountability in the examination process.

Singh acknowledged the ongoing concerns regarding examination paper leaks, including previous allegations related to NEET-UG 2024. He recognised the urgent need to eliminate such breaches of integrity. “Paper leaks must stop immediately,” he stated, expressing regret over the need to cancel the examination as a result of these issues. He promised that the agency would conduct a fair examination in the future and correct past mistakes.

Earlier in the day, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chose not to respond to media inquiries concerning the cancellation amid the ongoing allegations. The centre’s decision to annul the NEET-UG 2026 examination was publicly acknowledged alongside a commitment to thoroughly investigate the situation.

NEET-UG Examination Details

The NEET-UG examination, essential for admissions to medical courses such as MBBS and BDS in India, was initially held on May 3, 2026, across over 5,400 centres in 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. Approximately 22.79 lakh candidates participated in this assessment. Following the examination cancellation, the government has directed the CBI to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the allegations surrounding the integrity of the examination process.

The NTA clarified that all registration data, candidate details, and examination centres selected by candidates for the May 2026 cycle will still be relevant for the rescheduled test. There will be no need for new registrations or additional fees, which has been a point of concern for many candidates.

As the situation unfolds, students are urged to remain patient while the NTA finalises the details for the re-examination. The agency’s focus remains on restoring confidence in the examination process and ensuring a fair opportunity for all candidates moving forward.
