Uttarakhand CM Reviews Bailey Bridge Construction and Char Dham Yatra Preparations

The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inspected the ongoing construction of a Bailey bridge on the Dehradun-Mussoorie road on April 21, 2023. The Chief Minister urged officials to expedite the work, emphasising the importance of facilitating smooth travel for both residents and tourists during the current tourist season and the upcoming pilgrimage period.

During the inspection near the Shiv Temple along Mussoorie Road, Dhami reviewed the progress of the bridge, which had been damaged during a disaster the previous year. He noted the significance of this route, which serves as a vital connection between Dehradun and Mussoorie, regularly experiencing heavy traffic from locals and visitors alike.

The Chief Minister reported that construction is moving forward quickly and that two-way traffic on the bridge is expected to resume shortly. He instructed the Public Works Department to ensure that the project remains on track and completes within the designated timeline so that public travel experiences minimal disruption.

Progress on Permanent Bridge Construction

During his address to the media, Dhami highlighted that a permanent bridge at the construction site is also a priority, with plans aimed at completion within the next two to three months. He stated that the state government is consistently focused on enhancing the infrastructure of roads and bridges throughout Uttarakhand.

In light of the forthcoming Char Dham Yatra and Adi Kailash Yatra, the Chief Minister has directed all relevant departments to conclude necessary infrastructure developments promptly. This initiative aims to ensure safe and seamless travel for both pilgrims and tourists during this busy period.

On the matter of preparations for the Char Dham Yatra, Dhami confirmed that all arrangements have been finalised, noting that the safety of pilgrims remains a foremost concern for the government. With the recent opening of the portals at Gangotri and Yamunotri on Akshaya Tritiya, the Chief Minister stated that he is ensuring readiness for the influx of yatra participants.

Government Efforts and Community Engagement

Dhami emphasised that the Char Dham Yatra has officially commenced, with the next phase involving the opening of the portals for Baba Kedar and Badrinath on April 23, followed by Hemkund. He reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising the well-being of all pilgrims with the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for their travel.

Earlier, at a celebration marking the 71st Sannyas anniversary of Swami Parmanand Giri, the head of Akhand Paramdham Ashram in Haridwar, Dhami reaffirmed the government’s promise to provide enhanced facilities for devotees participating in the yatra. He remarked on the auspicious timing of the portals opening, enhancing the cultural significance of the event.

In further engagements, Dhami visited Max Hospital in Dehradun to check on the health of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, expressing his wish for a swift recovery after receiving updates from medical staff attending him. This visit highlights the Chief Minister’s efforts to connect with the community beyond just infrastructural concerns.
