Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially launched four significant infrastructure projects valued at approximately Rs 235 crore on July 21, 2026, in Haridwar. The initiatives are part of a broader undertaking to modernise the city ahead of the Maha Kumbh 2027, which is expected to attract millions of pilgrims. The projects fall under the Haridwar-Rishikesh Ganga Corridor and aim to create a safer and more convenient environment for visitors and residents.

The Uttarakhand Infrastructure and Investment Development Board (UIIDB) is responsible for executing these projects. They are designed to enhance not only the immediate facilities but also the overall infrastructure, with the expectation that this development will stimulate local tourism, trade, and various service sectors, thus contributing positively to the economy.

During the launch event held at Hotel Alaknanda, CM Dhami initiated the ground-breaking for the Administrative Road Corridor Development Project, which alone is expected to cost Rs 43.25 crore. Additionally, he laid foundation stones for projects such as the redevelopment of Har Ki Pauri and Subhash Ghat, which entails an investment of Rs 66.76 crore, among others.

Commitment to Quality and Timeliness

Speaking to those gathered at the ceremony, Dhami expressed his commitment to adhering to high standards of quality and transparency throughout the execution of these projects. He emphasised that the government intends to not only mark the foundation stones but also ensure that the initiatives are completed within their designated timelines.

He pointed out that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is a national focus on preserving and enhancing India’s cultural heritage. The state government is aligning its efforts with this vision by undertaking significant initiatives aimed at transforming Haridwar into a premier cultural and spiritual hub.

Some of the key projects mentioned by CM Dhami include the Kedarkhand Temple Circuit Mission and the Manaskhand Temple Circuit Mission. These initiatives are aimed at improving temple infrastructure and simultaneously creating employment opportunities for local youth, thereby benefiting the community as a whole.

Ongoing and Future Developments in Haridwar

The Chief Minister highlighted that several infrastructure upgrades are already in progress in Haridwar. These include the construction of new ghats and bridges, road widening, and enhancements to the city’s traffic management system. Particular mention was made of various road improvement projects aimed at ensuring efficient transportation for the anticipated influx of pilgrims during the Maha Kumbh.

Additionally, CM Dhami discussed ongoing developments such as the Haridwar Medical College, a model degree college at Laldhang, and a new health centre at Shyampur. These initiatives aim to bolster both educational and healthcare facilities in the region.

Further plans include the construction of bridges, a game zone beneath the Shankaracharya Flyover, and various parking and commercial facilities. These developments are part of a larger strategic approach to position Haridwar as a prominent centre for pilgrimage, education, and healthcare.

Government’s Holistic Approach to Development

CM Dhami also addressed the government’s evolving approach to the Kanwar Yatra, asserting the importance of establishing permanent, modern infrastructure for the pilgrimage route instead of relying solely on temporary solutions. This shift aims to enhance safety and convenience for devotees who participate in the annual event.

In concluding his address, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving Uttarakhand’s cultural identity while facilitating development, citing key initiatives such as the Uniform Civil Code and anti-corruption measures. The Chief Minister’s vision for the state includes making Uttarakhand a leading hub for various sectors while focusing on governance characterised by integrity and transparency.

Dhami’s objectives extend to reviewing a proposal from Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj regarding the renaming of the Administrative Road, which will involve consultations with relevant stakeholders to gauge community sentiment on the matter.
