The announcement follows a vehicular disaster that occurred on Thursday, April 20, when a vehicle transporting eleven passengers veered off the road and fell approximately 300 metres into a gorge near Nail on the Chamba-Koti route.

Reports indicate that eight individuals were killed as a result of the accident, while two others sustained injuries. The injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at District Hospital Baurari, where they are reported to be in stable condition. This tragic incident has raised concerns about road safety in the region, underscoring the risks associated with mountainous terrain.

Officials, including SDM Ghansali Alkesh Naudiyal, confirmed the details of the incident, stating that post-mortem examinations are ongoing. The area surrounding the accident site is known for its challenging driving conditions, which may have contributed to this unfortunate occurrence.

Amidst the grief following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences. He announced a separate compensation package of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the kin of each deceased victim. Additionally, an amount of Rs 50,000 will be provided to those injured in the crash.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) conveyed these plans in a statement, recognising the loss of life in this accident as a deeply saddening event. The PMO further extended wishes for a swift recovery to the injured individuals, indicating the government’s commitment to supporting affected families.

Local authorities have been actively involved in providing immediate assistance to families impacted by the accident.
