At least one person was killed and five others injured after Russia launched an overnight missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, late on Tuesday, according to the city’s military administration. The strike came amid an escalation in cross-border aerial attacks between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides reporting civilian casualties.

Explosions were heard across Kyiv after the Ukrainian Air Force warned of incoming ballistic missiles. The latest attack followed a series of deadly drone strikes reported by Russian authorities earlier this week.

Russian Strike Hits Kyiv

According to the Kyiv military administration, the overnight attack left one person dead and five others injured.

Al Jazeera reported that explosions were heard across the Ukrainian capital after the Ukrainian Air Force detected several ballistic missiles approaching the city.

The attack marks the latest escalation in the continuing conflict, with both Russia and Ukraine intensifying long-range strikes.

Deadly Drone Strike Reported in Russia

Earlier on Monday, at least seven people were killed after debris from a Ukrainian drone fell onto a crowded beach in the southern Russian resort city of Gelendzhik, according to Russian officials.

Russia’s state news agency TASS, citing the country’s children’s rights commissioner, reported that four of the victims were children. The incident also injured 58 people, many of whom remain hospitalised.

Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratiev said the casualties occurred when debris from an unmanned aerial vehicle fell onto the beach. Authorities have not confirmed whether the drone crashed independently or was intercepted by Russian air defences.

According to CNN’s analysis of video footage, automatic gunfire from at least three weapons was heard moments before the drone changed course and crashed onto the beach. The report said the drone appeared to overshoot a nearby Russian radar installation before falling.

Ukraine Blames Russian Air Defence

Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Centre for Countering Disinformation, alleged that Russian air defence systems were responsible for the tragedy.

“This was the work of Russian air defence forces, which shot down the drone over a beach full of vacationers,” Kovalenko told CNN.

He added that Ukraine targets only Russia’s military-industrial and economic infrastructure connected with the war effort.

Moscow Region Also Reports Casualties

Russian authorities also reported fresh Ukrainian drone attacks in the Moscow region overnight.

According to TASS, five people were killed and six others injured after a drone strike triggered multiple fires in an industrial area.

The attack reportedly damaged an electrical substation and an administrative building.

The latest exchange of strikes highlights the continued escalation of the conflict, with both Russia and Ukraine reporting civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure amid sustained aerial attacks.
