The CSR Journal, Ultimate Energy Resource Pvt. Ltd. and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) join hands for RPL Skill Training Programme and Entrepreneurs Capacity Development of Women in the State of Maharashtra.

The CSR Journal (www.thecsrjournal.in) is proud to associate with UNDP, UERPL and concerned sector skill councils on this women’s empowerment project. UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. UNDP has worked in India since 1951 in almost all areas of human development, from democratic governance to poverty eradication, to sustainable energy and environmental management.

Ultimate Energy Resource Private Limited (UERPL) is a leading skill development Service Provider founded in 2012. UERPL is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company and also a National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) affiliated Training Partner.

Rural women entrepreneurship provides significant economic and social benefits and can be found in nearly every industry sector in every market in the nation. There are many policies which the government has intended towards promotion of women entrepreneurs, mainly because society realized that if 50% of the population (comprising women) can be developed, the socio-economic status of the community will reach great heights. Efforts are thus being undertaken to understand the problems related to rural women entrepreneur through Self-Help Groups and the solutions to improve them.

Connecting Training & Entrepreneurship
Women face some barriers when it comes to accessing relevant skills training. They face obstacles related to cost of training. This makes for a strong case for developing linkages between training centres and women entrepreneurs. Such partnerships are expected to benefit all parties/stakeholders involved.

Given that operational profitability depends on volumes and economies of scale, there is a need to explore models of cottage industries or cluster-based employment. The main aim of the project is to help women and girls in recognizing and working towards their economic aspirations. This target will be achieved by developing a model for empowerment, skill development and entrepreneurship opportunities for women. Specific objectives for development of this model include:

  • To identify potential districts in the state of Maharashtra for capacity building of 2,000 women entrepreneurs by means of RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) training and Market linkages.
  • To identify sectors along with job roles for which RPL training is provided by identifying the Women Entrepreneur preferably in unorganized sectors.
  • To mobilize female entrepreneurs/ workforce by providing them relevant RPL training.
  • To set up institutional arrangements for scaling up their capacity by the training and development of a female-led enterprise with provision of requisite additional machineries
  • To develop market linkages for the newly formed enterprise.Stages and goals
The project will be divided into various components to attain the overall objective of promoting economic aspirations of women. The nature of the project will be participatory and ideas from women and girls will be invited to gauge their economic ambitions. Each component of the project will ensure maximum inputs from the target audience to ensure the future sustainability of the economic activity. The various goals have been used to define three broad pillars that were used to support the formulation and roll out of a framework for this study. These three pillars are:
  1. Economic Aspirations and Economic Opportunities of Women Entrepreneurs
  2. Establishing a functional structure with the necessary Resource and Regulatory Environment
  3. Support required by the local women network of entrepreneurs.
