Twisha Sharma’s Body Kept in -4°C Storage For 7 days, Ideal Temperature is -80°C

The CSR Journal Magazine

Twisha Sharma’s body remains at an unsuitable temperature for preservation, stored at minus 4 degrees Celsius for over a week at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal. This is concerning, as the standard for long-term preservation is approximately minus 80 degrees Celsius. The Bhopal court, on Wednesday, pointed out the absence of facilities capable of maintaining such low temperatures in AIIMS Bhopal or anywhere else in the city.

The court has since instructed local police to identify medical institutions in Madhya Pradesh that possess ultra-low temperature preservation capabilities. Authorities at AIIMS Bhopal have confirmed the current temperature of the storage facility, underscoring the need for appropriate preservation standards linked to ongoing investigations.

Since her postmortem on May 13, Twisha’s body has resided in AIIMS Bhopal’s mortuary. Her family, originally from Noida, requested the police commissioner to keep the body preserved for subsequent investigations and a potential second postmortem examination. The court’s orders included a directive for the Station House Officer of Katara Hills police station to compile a report on available low-temperature facilities before the next hearing.

Police Urge Family to Assume Custody of the Body

In a related development, local police encouraged Twisha Sharma’s family to take custody of her body to prevent potential decomposition. They issued a letter to her father, Navnidhi Sharma, indicating concerns regarding the body’s condition due to an extended period in the mortuary.

The police expressed growing apprehension about decomposition risks, underscoring the urgency for the family to act swiftly to secure her remains. The police have been actively monitoring the situation amid ongoing investigations surrounding Twisha’s death.

The police report has outlined the findings from Twisha’s autopsy. Medical professionals noted the presence of two parallel ligature marks on her neck, consistent with pressure from a substance allegedly used during her death. The markings were described as reddish abrasions approximately 2 cm wide and exhibited upward patterns above the thyroid region.

Investigation Developments and Family Allegations

The autopsy concluded that Twisha’s death was due to asphyxia resulting from ante-mortem hanging, suggesting she was alive prior to the hanging. Nonetheless, the existence of double ligature marks has raised additional concerns among her family, who are calling for an independent second postmortem at AIIMS Delhi, indicating dissatisfaction with the ongoing inquiry.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar stated that the investigation is currently progressing under the assumption of suicide. He reassured the public that there is no undue pressure on the police regarding their investigation. The police maintain that Twisha’s case falls firmly within this classification, citing the autopsy findings.

Twisha, who was 33 years old and resided in Noida, was found deceased on May 12 in her marital home located in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Following her death, police registered an FIR against her husband, advocate Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, former judge Giribala Singh, for dowry-related accusations. The family has alleged various lapses during the investigation phase, calling for a second autopsy and claiming critical evidence linked to the material involved in the hanging was inadequately documented.

Amidst these allegations, Giribala Singh has denied any wrongdoing. The family has also expressed concerns regarding the delay in FIR registration, which occurred three days post-death. Currently, a Special Investigation Team is examining the allegations of dowry harassment and other related charges in this case.
