Three Prayagraj Coaching Centres Sealed Amid Student Protest Over Exam Irregularities

The CSR Journal Magazine

Recently, a large number of government job aspirants assembled in Prayagraj to voice concerns regarding alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. They were joined by prominent coaching operators from the area, marking a significant solidarity moment. However, in the aftermath, three well-known coaching institutes, Target On, Exampur, and Super Climax, were sealed by the Prayagraj Development Authority.

Officials stated that the closures were due to compliance issues and violations of building norms. Nevertheless, the timing of these actions has raised suspicions among coaching operators and students alike. No concrete evidence has been provided that links the protests to the sealing of these institutes, and authorities have neither confirmed nor denied any such connection. This has resulted in students questioning the rationale behind the closures, especially with critical examinations imminent.

Students participating in the protests demanded accountability regarding the alleged malpractices in recruitment exams, calling for more transparency in the process. The desire for greater clarity led to candlelight vigils, which have now entered public consciousness.

Response from Coaching Operators

Ravi Tiwari, representing Target On Coaching, articulated that the institutes participated in the protest in response to genuine concerns expressed by students. He questioned the reasoning behind the closures and advocated for the authorities to address the students’ grievances rather than disrupting educational activities.

Tiwari expressed scepticism regarding the effectiveness of sealing coaching centres as a solution to the issues raised by students. He highlighted the crucial role these institutes play in facilitating student preparation, particularly in the lead-up to exams, stating, “The problem belongs to the students.”

Following the closures, coaching operators have been vocal about their apprehensions concerning the timing. They noted that their institutions have been operating responsibly for many years and expressed their commitment to prioritising student safety. Nevertheless, the immediate fallout impacted not just the operators but, crucially, the students preparing for their upcoming exams.

Impact on Students’ Preparations

The closure of coaching institutes has significantly disrupted the routines of aspiring candidates. Students reported that their daily schedules comprising mock tests, revision sessions, and face-to-face guidance have been thrown into disarray just days before crucial examinations.

One student preparing for the Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment examination described the abrupt halt to classes, drawing attention to the necessity of regular offline training in overcoming exam-related anxiety. Another aspirant noted the financial pressure felt by families, indicating that successful exam outcomes could drastically alter their circumstances.

Moreover, many students expressed concerns about years of preparation being jeopardised due to the irregularities highlighted in the protests. As competing pressures mount, the anxiety surrounding the upcoming exams deepens, leaving many aspirants feeling uncertain about their futures.

Young female students who had moved from rural areas to Prayagraj for coaching shared emotional accounts of their aspirations. They described the financial and emotional challenges of preparing for competitive exams away from home, further illustrating the profound impact the closures have had on morale and study plans.

Teachers have also stepped up, as demonstrated by Maroof Ahmed from Super Climax Coaching, who has endeavoured to continue providing mock tests for students despite the sealing of his institute. His focus remains steadfast on supporting students, revealing the sacrifices made by educators to ensure that aspirants do not lose their chance at success.
