A significant assembly of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers took place outside the Congress headquarters in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, to express their discontent regarding a recent protest held by the opposition party in New Delhi. This protest occurred in light of a larger confrontation surrounding the treatment of protestors during the Congress-led ‘Chalo Sansad’ march. The BJP aims to assert its position and reinforce its stance against the criticisms disseminated by the Congress regarding government policies.

Congress Criticism of Police Actions

Gandhi argued that the education system, once recognised as one of the best globally, has now fallen into disarray. He pointed out that numerous students, many from middle-class and underprivileged backgrounds, invest significant sums in education, only to face disruptions and challenges. The Congress leader emphasised that no convictions have resulted from the paper leaks, suggesting a failure in accountability within the education governance system.

Additionally, Gandhi asserted that students deserve a fair education and questioned the rationale behind their treatment during peaceful protests. He referenced the distressing reality faced by students, including cases of suicide, due to excessive academic pressure and the system’s instability.

Concerns Over Education System Affordability

Gandhi raised alarms about the high costs associated with key examinations, particularly the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). He claimed families preparing for this exam end up spending amounts comparable to the government’s entire annual budget for education. This revelation has ignited concerns regarding the financial burden placed on families seeking quality education for their children.

He asserted that the financial demands of education are unsustainable for many families, leading to what he described as theft from them through this financial strain. Gandhi’s comments suggest that the education system is not only flawed but also systematically unfair, highlighting the urgent need for reform to alleviate the burdens faced by students and their families.

The BJP, meanwhile, continues to face pressure regarding its handling of educational policies and students’ welfare. The ongoing dialogue between the two political entities illustrates the deepening divide over educational standards and governance in India, as stakeholders from various backgrounds grapple with the implications of these systemic issues.
