Hiten Dharpure, a 17-year-old from Nagpur, India, has recently garnered international attention by achieving a Guinness World Record for creating the world’s smallest fully functional robotic arm. Measuring an impressive 39.25 millimetres, this innovative device surpasses the previous record of 44.49 millimetres by a margin of 5.24 millimetres. The announcement of this record was made official on January 17, 2026, as confirmed by Guinness World Records.

Utilizing advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, the arm was fabricated through high-precision Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) 3D printing, optimising material usage. It is powered by micro servo motors and controlled via a precise Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) module, allowing for three-axis independent movement and sufficient torque for gripping functions.

In recounting this accomplishment, Hiten emphasised that the record represents more than personal success. He highlighted it as a reflection of the potential of accessible technology and the vision of a developed India, asserting that significant innovations can stem from local initiatives.

Following the receipt of his award, Hiten was recognised by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who has honored him multiple times for his contributions to technology and engineering.

Expanding a Trail of Innovation

The robotic arm is the latest in a series of achievements for Hiten, who has previously set a Guinness World Record for creating the world’s smallest AI weather station. He has also been recognised by the Worldwide Book of Records for choreographing a robotic dance sequence with self-designed and 3D-printed robots.

Additionally, he has received accolades from the India Book of Records for completing 801 STEM and coding certifications. This extensive recognition highlights his steadfast engagement with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics from a young age.

Beyond personal achievements, Hiten is dedicated to employing technology to address pressing societal issues. One of his notable initiatives, HastaVaani, is an innovative mobile application aimed at translating Indian Sign Language (ISL) offline, designed to improve communication for the deaf community.
