A social media influencer was discovered deceased under suspicious conditions in her home in the Saadatganj area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, prompting a police inquiry and the filing of a dowry death case against her husband and five family members. Authorities reported that her body was located hanging, leading her in-laws to suggest that she died by suicide. However, the victim’s family has alleged that she was murdered due to dowry disputes, claiming that the scene was altered to resemble a suicide.

Marriage and Alleged Dowry Harassment

The victim, who was married to Sagar Rajput, another social media influencer with approximately 7.93 lakh followers on Instagram, tied the knot on December 9, 2024. According to a complaint submitted by the victim’s family, they expended significant resources for the wedding, providing around Rs 7 lakh in cash, along with various gifts and household items. Despite these efforts, it is alleged that dissatisfaction regarding the dowry ensued quickly after the marriage, resulting in demands for a car from the victim’s husband and in-laws.

Family members of the deceased have claimed that she was subjected to persistent physical and emotional abuse from her husband Sagar, along with her father-in-law Rajesh, sisters-in-law Barkha and Chandni, brother-in-law Anu, and aunt-in-law Asha. The victim reportedly informed her relatives multiple times about the ongoing harassment, prompting them to intervene on several occasions to mediate the situation. Unfortunately, they allege that their efforts proved ineffective, and the situation worsened.

On Saturday, the victim’s family learned of her death through other relatives. They assert that her in-laws are responsible for her demise and allegedly staged the scene to cover up the crime. The police, acting on the family’s complaint, have registered a case against the six individuals implicated in the allegations related to dowry death.

Inspector Santosh Arya, who is overseeing the investigation in Saadatganj, stated that a formal complaint has led to the registration of a case against the six accused, including the victim’s husband. The case deals with charges linked to dowry death, and police have initiated a thorough investigation to gather evidence and evaluate the circumstances surrounding the influencer’s death.

The deceased’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which is a standard procedure in such cases.
