Schools Closed In Parts Of Uttarakhand, UP, Kerala And Maharashtra Amid Heavy Rain

The CSR Journal Magazine

Heavy rainfall continued to disrupt normal life across several parts of India on Thursday, prompting authorities in districts across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra to order the closure of schools and other educational institutions.

The precautionary measures followed heavy rainfall warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While the extent of the closures varies across districts, the orders cover government and private schools, with several administrations also suspending classes at Anganwadi centres, colleges and vocational institutions.

Schools Closed Across Six Uttarakhand Districts

Uttarakhand witnessed the widest impact, with district administrations ordering a one-day closure of educational institutions following forecasts of heavy rainfall.

In Dehradun, all government, government-aided and private schools from Classes 1 to 12, along with Anganwadi centres, were ordered to remain closed after the IMD issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Similar closure orders were issued in Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Tehri and Haridwar, with district administrations citing student safety amid adverse weather conditions.

Ghaziabad Schools Shut From Nursery To Class 12

In Uttar Pradesh, the Ghaziabad district administration ordered all schools to remain closed on July 9 because of the prevailing weather conditions.

The order covers students from nursery to Class 12 and applies to government, aided, private and recognised schools affiliated with all education boards.

Authorities issued the closure order as a precautionary measure amid continued rainfall and weather warnings.

Kerala Closes Schools And Colleges In Three Districts

District authorities in Kerala declared holidays for educational institutions in Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram following heavy rainfall warnings and concerns over landslides.

The closure orders apply to schools, colleges, Anganwadi centres and other educational institutions in the three districts.

Officials said conditions in neighbouring districts were being reviewed and further decisions would be taken depending on changes in the weather situation.

Educational Institutions Shut In Maharashtra’s Vasai Region

In Maharashtra, the Palghar District Collector ordered the closure of all educational institutions under the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation and across Vasai Taluka.

The order covers Anganwadi centres, schools, colleges, Industrial Training Institutes and vocational training centres.

Authorities continued to monitor rainfall conditions across Maharashtra after weather-related disruptions were reported earlier this week in several areas, including Mumbai, Pune, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Lonavala.

More Districts Could Announce School Holidays

Officials have advised parents and students to check announcements from their respective district administrations before leaving for educational institutions, as closure decisions are being reviewed according to local weather conditions.

With the IMD forecasting continued rainfall across several regions, additional districts could announce holidays if weather conditions deteriorate further.
