RCB vs LSG, IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru seal Chase to Beat Lucknow Super Giants by 5 Wickets

The CSR Journal Magazine

Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 5 wickets in Match 23 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Chasing 147, RCB reached 147/5 in 14.2 overs after LSG posted 146 all out in 20 overs, completing a controlled run chase on a surface that offered assistance to bowlers.

LSG Struggle to Build Momentum After Early Setback

Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants endured a disrupted start, with captain Rishabh Pant forced to retire hurt early after being struck on the elbow. The early setback dented LSG’s momentum, and despite a steady opening stand led by Mitchell Marsh, the innings lacked fluency through the middle overs.

Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran attempted to rebuild, but regular wickets prevented any sustained acceleration. LSG managed only brief partnerships, with RCB’s bowlers maintaining disciplined lines and lengths. The middle-order collapse proved decisive as LSG slipped from a stable position into a below-par total.

RCB’s bowling unit shared the workload effectively, with the pace attack striking at crucial intervals. The inability of LSG’s lower order to capitalise in the death overs meant they finished on 146, a total that appeared underwhelming on a typically high-scoring Bengaluru pitch.

RCB’s Measured Chase Anchored by Top-Order Contributions

In response, Royal Challengers Bengaluru approached the chase with composure. The opening pair ensured a solid platform, negotiating the new ball without taking undue risks. The tempo increased gradually, with boundaries coming at regular intervals.

The middle order then took control of the chase, rotating strike efficiently while punishing loose deliveries. Despite losing wickets at intervals, RCB never allowed the required rate to climb significantly.

LSG bowlers, including Avesh Khan, delivered disciplined spells and picked up key wickets, but the lack of scoreboard pressure limited their impact. RCB’s depth in batting ensured that the chase remained on track even in the face of minor setbacks.

The match was effectively sealed in the middle overs, as RCB accelerated to bring down the required runs quickly. The winning runs came in the 15th over, completing a clinical chase.

Clinical Finish Boosts RCB’s Campaign

RCB’s all-round performance, particularly their bowling discipline and controlled batting effort, proved decisive. The Player of the Match award went to a standout RCB performer who contributed significantly in restricting LSG and stabilising the chase.

The result strengthens RCB’s position in the points table, continuing their positive run in the tournament, while LSG will need to address concerns in their batting unit, especially in handling pressure situations.

In the next IPL fixture, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are set to face Gujarat Titans, while Lucknow Super Giants will take on Rajasthan Royals as the league stage gathers momentum.
