The DAANVEER initiative has been launched to bolster the digital infrastructure of Gram Panchayats throughout India. This citizen participation programme was inaugurated on July 29 by Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in New Delhi. The initiative aims to not only bridge the digital gap in local governance but also to cultivate a sustainable ecosystem powered by community involvement.

Focus and Objectives of DAANVEER

According to a release from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, DAANVEER is designed to be a transparent, end-to-end digital platform. It allows citizens and organisations to identify and contribute to specific technological and infrastructural needs of Gram Panchayats across the country. The programme is grounded in the principles of voluntarism, aiming to provide a structured and accountable avenue for enhancing digital capabilities at the grassroots level.

Vivek Bharadwaj highlighted the initiative as a pivotal move towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat, ensuring that every Gram Panchayat becomes digitally equipped and capable of embracing future advancements. He noted that the initiative offers individuals worldwide an opportunity to reconnect with their local communities by actively participating in their development.

Bharadwaj explained the significance of digital infrastructure, stating that computers in Gram Panchayats serve as vital tools for not just maintaining records but also for expediting service delivery, increasing transparency, and enhancing governance. He emphasised that DAANVEER should not be mistaken for a mere donation initiative; instead, it is a collaborative platform enabling citizens and organisations to play active roles in reinforcing local governance.

Reactions and Support from State Officials

Officials from Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, present at the launch event, expressed their support for the DAANVEER initiative. They mentioned that numerous citizens and philanthropists in their states have already exhibited a strong willingness to support Gram Panchayats by donating computers. They underscored that strengthening the digital infrastructure at the Panchayat level could substantially improve the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of public services nationwide.

The launch event was attended by several key figures, including Mukta Shekhar and Palka Sahni, both Joint Secretaries of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, along with Vipul Ujwal, Director at MoPR. Senior officials from State Panchayati Raj Departments of both Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra were also present, further solidifying the collaborative effort towards enhancing local governance.

This initiative aligns with the broader goals of India’s Digital India programme and reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a participatory model of governance. By encouraging citizen involvement in the digitalisation of local governance, DAANVEER aspires to create a more engaged and informed citizenry that actively contributes to its own development.
