A 33-year-old powerloom worker, who had been absconding after a previous rape and murder case involving a six-year-old girl, has been arrested again for allegedly assaulting and killing a seven-year-old girl in Bhiwandi, Thane district, Maharashtra. The police detained the man on October 1, the day the incident took place.

The accused allegedly raped and strangled his seven-year-old neighbour and stuffed her body in a gunny sack before fleeing the scene on Wednesday, he said. He was caught by the police while he was preparing to flee to Madhubani in Bihar on the same night, the official said.

Victim Found Strangled, Hidden in Sack

According to police reports, the victim had stepped out of her house to relieve herself and did not return. Her parents, alarmed by her disappearance, searched the area and found the girl’s small bucket near the accused’s locked residence.

When they forced entry, they discovered the child’s body inside a gunny sack. The girl was reportedly raped and strangled by the accused before he fled the scene.

Accused Nabbed While Trying to Flee to Bihar

The suspect had been previously arrested in 2023 for the rape and murder of another six-year-old girl and was in Thane Central Jail. He escaped custody during a court hearing in August and recently returned to the victim’s neighborhood. Police arrested him while he was preparing to flee to Madhubani, Bihar, on the night of the latest crime.

Legal Proceedings Under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita

Authorities have registered cases against the accused under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police have launched a thorough investigation and are working to ensure the safety of children in the community.
