The United States military has completed its ninth consecutive night of strikes against Iranian targets, continuing its campaign following the collapse of an interim ceasefire and the escalating conflict around the Strait of Hormuz. The latest operations targeted military infrastructure that Washington said was being used to threaten commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.

The strikes came as regional tensions remained high, with Iran continuing missile attacks across the Middle East and the conflict expanding beyond the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM Details Latest Strikes

In a statement, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest round of operations concluded at 10 pm Eastern Time on July 19 (2 am GMT on July 20).

According to CENTCOM, the strikes targeted Iranian military command centres, air defence and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch locations, and communications networks.

The command said the operation was intended “to further diminish Iran’s ability to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz.”

It added that the US military was “holding Iran accountable at the Commander in Chief’s direction” and said its forces remained “highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready.”

Regional Tensions Continue to Rise

The latest bombardment follows the collapse of last month’s interim ceasefire, with fighting continuing to disrupt maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the report, Washington launched the latest strikes after confirming the death of another American service member on Sunday.

At the same time, Iran reportedly fired missiles towards Jordan, raising concerns that the conflict could spread further across the region.

Independent activists in Iran also reported major explosions at around 2.30 am local time during the latest phase of the operation.

CENTCOM said the campaign would continue to target Iranian military capabilities used in attacks against commercial vessels and civilian shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

US Military Casualties Increase

US military officials said the latest American fatality occurred in Iraq on Saturday during the controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone.

The incident followed an earlier Pentagon announcement that American strikes had targeted Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in retaliation for the killing of US personnel in Jordan.

Officials also said a search operation for a missing service member from Friday’s fighting led to the discovery of unidentified remains on Sunday, which are undergoing forensic examination.

According to the report, the total number of US military personnel killed since the conflict began has risen to 17.

Conflict Expands Across the Region

The conflict, now entering its second week, has seen US forces target key Iranian infrastructure, including bridges, water desalination facilities and power infrastructure.

Iran has responded by expanding its attacks against US-allied countries across the Middle East.

Air defence systems have recently been activated in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain to intercept Iranian drones and missiles.

Israeli authorities have also warned that missile trajectories towards Jordan could allow the conflict to spill into Israeli territory for the first time in several weeks.
