The National Testing Agency (NTA) has addressed allegations circulating on social media regarding discrepancies in the OMR answer sheets of candidates who participated in the NEET (UG) 2026 examination. The agency has asserted that the declared results are accurate and that the images being shared have been digitally manipulated.

In an official statement released on Monday, July 20, 2026, the NTA noted that it has been made aware of OMR answer sheets that are purportedly the “correct” records for certain candidates. These images have been used to claim that the results reported for these individuals are erroneous.

The NTA has conducted a thorough verification of records pertaining to all such claims. According to their findings, every candidate’s results are consistent with the original records that the NTA maintains, with no discrepancies identified.

Details of Genuine OMR Answer Sheets

The agency elaborated on the features of the genuine OMR answer sheets, stating that each document includes the correct roll number, test booklet number, answer sheet barcode, serial number, test booklet code, and handwritten details of the candidate. Additionally, the sheets feature the signatures and thumb impressions of both the candidate and two invigilators.

The NTA has emphasised that these official records were distributed to candidates through their registered email addresses as well as the candidate portal. The scores issued to all candidates align entirely with the OMR answer sheets and the official answer key provided for NEET (UG) 2026.

Consequences of Fabricated Documentation

The agency has categorically stated that the images circulating on social media are not legitimate documents issued by the NTA, but rather altered versions of actual OMR answer sheets. The nature of these alterations includes the addition of incorrect response markings as well as modifications to candidates’ names and the authenticated signatures of invigilators.

The NTA has issued a warning regarding the fabrication, submission, or distribution of inaccurate OMR answer sheets, noting that such actions are considered a cognisable offence under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. Such acts may lead to legal repercussions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Candidates who have genuine grievances are encouraged to follow the procedures laid out in the NTA’s public notice dated July 20, 2026. This notice is available on the NTA website, ensuring that those with valid concerns can address them through appropriate channels.
