The iconic Rajmandir Cinema is celebrating its golden jubilee today and to mark this milestone, five popular Bollywood movies are being screened for free. Among the movies being screened are ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and ‘Chupke Chupke’.

The iconic Rajmandir cinema began operating in 1976 at MI Road in Jaipur, Rajasthan. For decades Rajmandir has been one of Jaipur’s prominent landmarks. Known for its unique architecture, larger-than-life interiors and distinctive lighting, Rajmandir has always been a favourite destination for both domestic and foreign tourists.

Retained charm despite OTT

Even though OTT has taken over, Rajmandir continues to retain its charm, said Kishore Kala, finance manager at Rajmandir. “Rajmandir has witnessed every phase of the entertainment industry and continues to remain a key attraction of the city.” He shared that some movies, like ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’, ran the longest with 500 days.

An officer-in-charge at Rajmandir, Ankur Khandelwal noted that watching a movie at Rajmandir is more than just a business venture. “This cinema has never been seen merely as a business. It is an emotional landmark for Jaipur and we are committed to preserving it as a tourist attraction.”

Distributors call Rajmandir Rajasthan’s pride

Well-known distributor Raj Bansal called Rajmandir the pride of Rajasthan and the top single-screen theatre in the country. Another distributor Sanjay Chettar noted that screening a movie at Rajmandir is every distributor’s dream and requirement because of its legacy. “Every distributor wants their film to be screened at Rajmandir because of its legacy and grandeur.”

Sharing their emotions with the CSR Journal, a tourist from Australia said, “We have come to Rajmandir not because of cinema, but because of the experience and royalty associated with the name.”
